
Dhankar Monastery is an 800-year-old monastery, placed in Dhankar Village, approximately 25km east of Kaza in Lahul and Spiti district in Himachal Pradesh. The monastery houses some extraordinary Buddhist paintings and sculptures and Buddhist scriptures in Bhoti lingo. The presiding figure is of the Dhyan Buddha, known as 'Vairocana', facing all directions, placed back-to-back.
