Kollam is considered as `the gateway to the backwaters of Kerala`, also known as the fishing center

This district is located to the north of Thiruvananthapuram. This can be called as the hub of the country`s cashew trading and processing industry. It was formerly a renowned trading point for spice. The district is home to the largest fresh water lake in Kerala Sasthamcottah. This Kollam or Quilon is an old seaport town on the Arabian coast that stands on the Ashtamudi Lake.
