
Shekhar Suman, the extremely talented actor was born on 14 June 1960 in
Patna, India to a surgeon father Dr.Phani Bhushan Prasad and grew up as the only son in the household of three sisters. His Grandfather was Senior Advocate of Patna High Court. Shekhar Suman was married to Alka Kapoor on May 4, 1984 and the couple have a son, Adhyayan Suman is a Bollywood film actor. Shekhar is now engaged in constructing a hospital in Patna in the late memory of his eldest son, Aayush, who died of a heart ailment when he was nine.
Film Career of Shekhar Suman
Shekhar began his film career with the movie `Utsav.` Although his performance was appreciated by the critics, the movie was a commercial failure. He has acted in some other movies like Sansar, Tridev, Naache Mayuri, Chor Machaaye Shor, Insaaf Apne Lahoo Se and others. Despite acting in over 30 films with almost all the top-class heroines of his times including Padmini Kolhapure, Sudha Chandran,
Madhuri Dixit and
Juhi Chawla his career graph remained static. It was with Jaya Bachhan`s sitcom `Dekh Bhai Dekh` that Shekhar Suman catapulted to fame. This soap exploited his flair for the comic and made him immensely popular. Then his character portrayal of an intrepid journalist in Vinod Pandey`s `Reporter` propelled him to stardom. He reached the summit of his career in the year 1998 when Shekhar was branded as `Mr. Television` and he was in seven serials in a single day. He also hosted the show of `Movers and Shakers` and its sequels, Simply Shekhar and Carry on Shekhar. For sometime he also worked with theatre personality Om Kature who runs the Yatri Theater Group to set up a theatre academy `Silhoutte` and enacted atleast two plays. He was seen as the judge of the great comedy show, `The Great Indian Laughter Challenge` along with
Navjot Singh Sidhu, a former cricketer. Later after the duo separated Shekhar went ahead and became the judge of a rival comedy program `Comedy Circus.` Apart from these he has also been part of other serials like Wah janab, Andaz, Amar Prem, Nilaam Ghar and He-Man. He also hosted a show on Star News, Poll Khol for Five Years. The actor is also credited with endorsing brands like BPL Washing Machine, Coke, Tide, Polar Fans, Priyagold Magic Gold Biscuits, Daawat Basmati Rice, and many more.
Today Shekhar Suman has risen to the stature of celebrity. He has also set up his own movie production house `Daffodils and Dreams` and his projects are all under with various renowned filmmakers. His other production house is `Seven Thirty Ltd.` He has been a master of all games including acting, anchoring, hosting as well as singing. He has even launched his music album for T-Series, `Kuch Khwab Aise`. The album has a collection of eight love ballads which has been composed by the eminent music director Aadesh Srivastava and its lyrics has been written by Shyam Raj. The entire choreography, designing and direction of the music video have been done by Rajiv Goswami. The album also features the Brazilian Kingfisher model - Bruna.
