Merwyn Fernandes is a far-famed Indian hockey player. This a three time Olympian, is also an Olympic gold medallist. The Olympics held in the year 1980 in Moscow.

This Olympic was an unusual Olympic hockey tournament where the top 3 teams of the existing 1976 Montreal Olympics - New Zealand (gold), Australia (silver) and Pakistan (bronze) boycotted the 1980 Olympic hockey tournament. At the Asian Games and the Champions Trophy, Merwyn Fernandes has delineated India for two times.
