The young and very talented Indian filmmaker Farhan Akhtar created waves in the Indian Film Industry with his directorial venture `Dil Chahta Hai` in the year 2001. This extremely talented persona was born on January 9, 1976. He is the son of the great scriptwriter, poet and lyricist Javed Akhtar and the renowned screenplay writer Honey Irani. The most honorable actress and social activist Shabana Azmi is his stepmother. He is also the grandson of the celebrated Urdu poet Jan Nisar Akhtar.

Farhan Akhtar made his directorial debut with the Bollywood charbuster `Dil Chahta Hai` in the year 2001.This went on to become a huge success and he also won the Filmfare Best Screenplay Award for the same. He was also nominated for the Best Director award for this film. Then he went on to direct his next film `Lakshya` starring the Bollywood heartthrob Hrithik Roshan. He said when he left college he was sitting idle at his home for a span of two years and everyday during that time he used to watch two films which later helped him to connect with the male protagonist of the Bollywood flick `Lakshya`, Karan Shergill who was unemployed and lacked ambition in life.

Though the film did not become a huge hit but all acclaimed his work and he won many accolades for it. He then directed the remake of the super hit film of the yesteryears titled `Don` and named it as `Don - The Chase Begins`. This film starred the Bollywood Badshaah Shah Rukh Khan in the lead role. This film again worked wonders for him by rocking the whole nation. Soon after he produced another low budget film `Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd` which again did very well at the box-office and earned him much honor. Farhan Akhtar is always referred to as a metro sexual guy.

Farhan Akhtar will soon be seen in Anand Shringarpore`s directorial venture `Fakir`. His acting flair came to the fore when he decided to play a young production controller in this movie who escorts a fakir from the Indian subcontinent to Venice. He is also all set to play the lead role in his sister Zoya Akhtar`s directorial debut `Luck By Chance`. This talented filmmaker and actor also gives a lot of importance to looks and hairdos of his actors in his ventures as he believes the audience need to relate themselves to the characters when the go to watch the movie.

He also stated that certain parts of `Dil Chahta Hai` were absolutely related to him when he could identify the problem of the young youth and which he had also gone through for a very major phase in life. He believes that from him the people can always expect good and clean entertainment and also some residue of an idea or thought that one can take home and mull over.
