Honey Irani. The most honorable actress and social activist
Shabana Azmi is his stepmother. He is also the grandson of the celebrated Urdu poet Jan Nisar Akhtar.
Farhan Akhtar made his directorial debut with the Bollywood charbuster `Dil Chahta Hai` in the year 2001.This went on to become a huge success and he also won the Filmfare Best Screenplay Award for the same. He was also nominated for the Best Director award for this film.

His acting flair came to the fore when he decided to play a young production controller in this movie who escorts a fakir from the Indian subcontinent to Venice. He is also all set to play the lead role in his sister Zoya Akhtar`s directorial debut `Luck By Chance`. This talented filmmaker and actor also gives a lot of importance to looks and hairdos of his actors in his ventures as he believes the audience need to relate themselves to the characters when the go to watch the movie.
