Rajasthan is a beautiful state, which is known for its colourful festivals and fairs, traditional handicrafts, gems and jewellery, textiles and embroidery and leather and marble processing. It is also known as the land of desert and palaces. The Aravalli ranges stretching from northeast to southwest surround the state. This state has large deposits of non-metallic and metallic minerals and ornamental stones like marble, sandstone, Kota stone, Jodhpur stone, Dhaulpur stone, Karoli stone, slate, and granite. Rajasthan has thirty-two districts. The main occupation in majority of the districts is agriculture although the districts are developing industrially.
Ajmer district is a major attraction for devotees because the tomb of Sufi Saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti is located here. The other attractions of the district are Ana Sagar Lake, Daulat Bagh, Foy Sagar, Taragarh Fort, and the Nasiyan Jain temple.
Alwar district is situated in the northeastern portion of Rajasthan covering a total area of 8,380 sq. km. The dry climate of the region favours the production of crops like wheat, rapeseed, mustard, pulses, gram, jowar, maize, sugarcane, sesamum, red chilies, paddy, barley, and groundnut.
Banswara district in the southern portion of Rajasthan is an ideal tourist destination. The major attractions of the district are Parahera, the historic city of Talwara with remains of ancient monuments, the ancient temple of the goddess Tripura Sundari, Sri Raj Mandir palace, Anand Sagar Lake, Dialab Lake, Madareshwar, and Abdulla Pir.
The backbone of the Baran district is the various manufacturing units that are located here. The important ones are leather units, metal-based units; petroleum based mineral units, rubber and plastic units, silk and artificial yarn clothes, machine and machinery units, paper and products and many others.
Barmer district is famous for its rich crafts, pottery, embroidery works and block printed fabrics. It is situated on the western part of Rajasthan and the important places of the district are Jasol, Juna Barmer, Juna Temple, Khed, Kiradu, Mahaveer Park, Meva Nagar, Neemari, and Safed Akhara.
Bharatpur district is situated in the eastern part of Rajasthan at an altitude of 100m. The prime attractions of this district are the Keoladeo National Park, Lohagarh Fort and palace, Keshav Bhavan, Suraj Bhavan, Nand Bhavan, Purana Mahal, and Deeg Fort.
Bhilwara district is an important industrial district of the state. However it has a moderate climate, which favours the growth of crops like wheat, maize, rapeseed and mustard, jowar, pulses, groundnut, barley, sesamum, sugarcane, cotton, red chilies, gram, and bajra.
Bikaner district is renowned for its ivory and lacquer-ware handicrafts, woolen shawls, carpets and blankets. Some of the important manufacturing units of the district are felts, chemicals, shoes, and cigarettes.
The major attractions of the Bundi district are the magnificent medieval forts, palaces, havelis, temples and carved pillars. The important tourist destinations of the district are Garh Palace, Kshar Bagh, Chhattar Mahal, Sukh Mahal, Taragarh Fort, Dugari, Indargarh, Keshavraipatan and Talwas.
Chittorgarh district is dotted with numerous palaces and is a tourist`s delight. Some of them are Padmini`s Palace, Fateh Prakash Palace Museum, Jaimal and Patta palaces and the Rana Kumbha`s Palace.
Churu district located in the northeastern part of Rajasthan is known all over India for its regional handicrafts, tie and dye fabrics, and furniture. The major crops produced here are bajra, wheat, rapeseed and mustard, pulses and gram.
In the eastern part of Rajasthan is the Dausa district. Mataji Ka Mandir, Nilkanth Mahadev Temple, and temples dedicated to Lord Shiva are some of the attractions of the district.
Dhaulpur district is one of the hottest places in Rajasthan. The major crops produced here are bajra, paddy, sugarcane, wheat, barley, pulses, red chillies and guarseed.
Nestled in the foothills of the Aravalli is the Dungarpur district covering an area of 3,770 sq. km. The district has an abundant collection of teak, mahua, mango and khajur trees.
Ganganagar district is renowned for its rich cultural heritage. It is the trading center for grains, oilseed, vegetables, sheep and cattle. The major attractions of the district are Suratgarh and Baropal.
Hanumangarh district lying in the northern part of Rajasthan was carved out from Ganganagar district. The district celebrates a number of fairs, which are very famous like Gogameri mela, Bhadrakalim mela, Pallu mela and Shila Mata mela.
Jaipur district is an idyllic tourist destination because of its magnificent forts and palaces. The major attractions are Hawa Mahal, Amber Fort, Jal Mahal, Nahargarh Fort, Amber Palace, Jaigarh Fort, Sisodia Rani Ka Bagh, Ram Niwas Garden and many more.
Jaisalmer district in the western part of Rajasthan is spread over an area of 38, 401 sq km. major portions of the district lies in the Thar district. The tourist destinations in the district are Jaisalmer fort, Sonar Kila, Akal wood Fossil Park, Patwon ki Haveli , Salim Singh ki Haveli and the Lakshmi Nath Temple.
The prime attractions of the Jalore district are Jalore fort, Mosque of Malik Sha,the Jain temples, Bhinmal and Sanchore.
Jhalawar district has its administrative headquarters at Jhalwar. The district consists of exotic wildlife variety, massive forts, beautiful cave paintings and dense forests. The area around Bhawani Mandi plays an important role in the production of oranges.
Jhunjhunu district is spread over a total area of 5,928 sq.km. and most of the part is semi desert. Temples are scattered all over the district, which are major religious destinations. The prominent ones are Gopinathji Temple, Satyanarayan temple and Sri Ranisatiji Mandir.
In the western part of the district is the Jodhpur district spread over a total area of 22,850 sq. km. The climate and the soil of the region favour the cultivation of crops like millet, moth, groundnut, cotton, bajra, wheat and barley. It attracts visitors because of its artistic sculptures, magnificent palaces, massive forts and havelis.
Karauli district covers a total area of 5,069 sq.km and the prime attraction of the district is the Kailadevi Wildlife Sanctuary and the Kalyanji Timangarh fort.
Kota district on the bank of the Chambal River is becoming an important industrial area. The stone and the chemical industries are the important industries of the district.
Nagaur district is spread over an area of 17,718 sq km. Agriculture is the main occupation for majority of the population and the major crops produced here are maize, jowar, paddy, wheat, barley, gram and pulses.
Pali district of Rajasthan is enriched with minerals like asbestos, limestone, gypsum and marble. The major industries of the region are textile industries, pharmaceutical and cement industries.
Rajsamand district located in the southern part of Rajasthan has a moderate climate, which favours the cultivation of sugarcane, wheat, jowar, rice, gram, barley and groundnut. The district is also famous for its marble production, handloom and terracotta works.
Sawai Madhopur district in the southeastern part of Rajasthan is a tourist destination because of the Sawai Mansingh Wildlife Sanctuary, Ranthambor Fort, Ranthambor National Park and the Ganesha Temple.
Sikar district is spread over an area of 7,700 sq km. This district exports furniture and granite blocks. The important industries of the district are the cement industries, textile industries, plastic industries, rubber and rubber products and chemical products.
Mount Abu, the only hill station of Rajasthan is situated in the Sirohi district and attracts many tourists every year.
Seasonal rivers like the Chakan River, Mashi River, Dai, Dheel and the Sohadara river flows through the Tonk district. Agriculture and animal husbandry are the main occupation of the people of this district.
Udaipur district spread over a total area of 17,279 sq km. is located in the southern part of Rajasthan. The major attractions of the district are the City Palace, Badal Mahal, Pichhola Lake, Sajjan Garh, Udaipur Teerth and Jhameshwarji.
