Deepak Kumar Mondal was born on 12th October 1979 in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand in India. He is known for his high work rate. For this high rate of work he was rewarded as the winning Indian Player of the Year in 2002. Deepak Kumar Mondal has played for East Bengal Club, Tata Football Academy and JCT FC.

Complying injury after more than 9-month lay-off, Deepak Mondal at long last made a long-awaited return to competitive football, when he made his come back in the 81st minute as a substitute in Mahindra United`s Mumbai Elite Division match. The match was against Central Railway on October 8, 2005. After the match on an interview when he was asked about his future planning, he replied by saying: "Right now the upcoming Federation Cup is my immediate target. I want to be able to perform and get results for the club in this tournament. I doubt any other club would have treated me so well, the way Mahindra United have done, during this tough period for me. Hence I want to give my all for this club. At this immediate stage, I am not considering any farther than playing club football. Am just concentrating on the present." The man of substance Deepak Kumar Mandal says that his only aim is to play well.
