Thadou tribes mirror their enriched culture through oral tradition of folk songs, dance, and tales.

Thadou is one of the tribes among the list of tribal communities which are scattered in different parts of Manipur. A scheduled tribe of Manipur, Thadou tribes populates every corner of several districts of the state. These Thadou tribes have enriched their culture and tradition with its plethora of folk tales, songs, dance and verses.

Thadou tribes by word of mouth as passed on from generations. The story of their origination in the soils of Manipur determines that they are considered to be emerged from the source of the Gunn River, popular in the region as the Imphal River. Exquisite dresses add to the embellishment of the culture and tradition of the whole of Thadou society. These Thadou attires become the style marks of these Thadou people. Their traditional dresses include conventional black shawl with red borders. Language that these Thadou tribes converse in is Thadou.

Since Thadao are veggies, they have developed tastes for all kinds of vegetarian meals. These include rice, maize, millets and all types of vegetables. Amongst their favourites is `zu`. It is a special drink that these Thadou tribes prefer, prepared from rice or maize.

Just like other tribes of the north-eastern states, these Thadou too have adopted agriculture as their chief occupation. What is really praiseworthy is their remarkable achievements of occupying the prestigious position of ministers in the state constituent assemble of the Manipur state.
