India follows the federal parliamentary representative democratic republic framework where the Prime minister is the Head of the government and the President is the head of the State. Politics in India has its own style and individuals who actively participate in politics are the Indian politicians.
Notable Indian politicians since independence are Jawaharlal Nehru, Lal Bhadur Shastri, Rajiv Gandhi; A.B.Vaijpayee, Manmohan Singh,Chandra Shekhar, Vishwanath Pratap Singh and many others who have guided India since independence. Men dominated the Indian political scenario for a long time, as politics was not considered a woman`s domain with the exception of Indira Gandhi. However in the present scenario women seemed to have carved a niche for themselves in this male dominated profession. Notable women politicians are Smt. Sonia Gandhi, Smt. Ambika Soni, Smt. Sushma Swaraj, Smt. Jaylalita and the present President of India Smt. Pratibha Patil. The sons and daughters of the politicians are also following their parent`s footsteps.
