Ernakulum District, Kerala
Ernakulum, popularly known, as the commercial capital of Kerala is a district with cent percent literacy rate.

Ernakulam is blessed with a wonderful acculturation and magnificence. Being the commercial hub of Kerala, all the major developments in the fields of industry, transportation and IT happen here. The educational standards of the inhabitants are so high that the literacy rate of the district is cent percent and thus it is first district in the whole country with complete literacy rate. All the tourist places and pilgrim centers of the districts complete its uniqueness enabling it to attract millions of tourist every year.

History of Ernakulum District:
The word Ernakulam was derived from a Tamil word `Erayanarkulam` which means abode of Lord Shiva. Ernakulum district was formed on 1st April 1958. Geography of Ernakulum District:
The present Ernakulam District comprises of different taluks as for example Paravur, Aluva, Kochi, Kanayannoor, Muvattupuzha, Kunnathunadu, and Kothamangalam which come under Fortkochi and Muvattupuzha Revenue Sub Division. Prior to the formation of Idukki District, Thodupuzha Taluk was also a part of Ernakulam District.

Culture of Ernakulam District:
Among different temples and its famous festivals, the Sivarathri at the Siva Temple of Aluva attracts people from different parts of the country. ernakulum District is also famous as the birth place of Adisankara.The festival at the church of Vallarpadam is very famous and attracts people .The Chavitty Natakom is the famous classical dance form of the Ernakulam District.

Economy of Ernakulamn District:
Ernakulam district`s biggest source of employment is agriculture and its industries. Ernakulam district is the most developed district in Kerala, bestowed with all the geographical factors that help the development of industry.

Education of Ernakulum Distric:
Regarding literacy and educational standards Ernakulam occupies an important place among the districts of Kerala.

Flora and Fauna of Ernakulum District:

Ernakulam district is located on the coast of the Arabian Sea, is a cluster of islands networked by lagoons and backwaters.The flora of this District is tropical. The eastern part of the district has dense forests and it is populated with the characterized fauna.

The district Ernakulum has a brighter history in the aspect of journalistic capacities. Nearly twenty dailies are published from this district as of now. Besides this some weeklies, fortnightlies and monthlies are also come under regular activities. An FM Radio station is functioning at Kakkanad. In the T.V. station programmes from New Delhi Doordarsan are relayed from. Kerala Press Academy is also functioning at Kakkanad. Also there are various numbers of cinema theatres run in the districts and they are earning good revenue every year out of these sources.

Tourism in Ernakulum Distirct:
This small state at the southern tip of the Indian peninsula is an easy winner owing to its beautiful landscape, captivating customs, high-intensity cultural life and an educated public so often dressed in white. All these characterization and many more are the real factors why such a huge volume of tourists is attracted to this place. Every year there are millions of tourists visiting to this place.
