Dharua Tribe

Amongst several tribes who have settled down in the fringes of Orissa state, Dharua tribes have hold a place of prominence in the eyes of several anthropologists of Indian subcontinent. Dharua tribe is one of the ancient tribes that are found in Orissa. These Dharua tribes mostly are found in the Malkangiri district including the block of Korukonda.

In the adjoining areas also these Dharua tribes can be seen. These include Mayurbhanj, Koraput, Sambalpur, Bolangir, Sundargarh, Dhenkenal, Cuttack, Mayurbhanj. There are few Dharua tribes who love to refer themselves in the alternative name, Durua. Similar to any other tribal populace of the country, these Dharua tribes too have developed their uniqueness in the arena of culture and ethnicity. These Dharua tribes speak in a language of the same name. It is also called Parji, belong to the famous Dravidian language family.

These Dharua tribes are mainly farmers; some of them even sustain their living in hunting also. Today these Dharua tribes also work as laborers in the field.
