Dinesh Nandan Sahay has served as the first Governor of the new state Chhatisgarh and is the ongoing Governor of Tripura

Dinesh Nandan Sahay is the ongoing Governor of the state of Tripura, India. He has also served as the first governor of Chhatisgarh. This eminent politician was born on 2nd February 1936 in Madhepur,Bihar in a middle class family to father late Deva Nandan Sahaya and mother late Kishori Devi. In real terms he is from Patna and he is proud of his lineage to this specified area and thus in true sense he is a "Bihari". He is married to Manju Sahaya and the couple has one son and two daughters. His son is a Class-I officer in G.I.C and son-in-law is senior officers in IAS and IPS (Bihar Cadre).

He managed to complete his M.A. in English Literature though being brought up in a rural background. He started his career as a Lecturer in H.D. Jain College Ara, after finishing his M.A. In the year 1960, this meritorious student was chosen to the Indian Police Service as R.R. and was appointed to the Bihar Cadre. In due discharge of his duty in this category, he played an instrumental role in holding several hard-hitting assignments and also more than a few important appellations that included the Secretariat. Other than this he also had a chore in C.B.I. and on September 1, 1994, he retired as the Director General of Police.

D.N. SahayIn January 1995, he entered into the breadth of public life after retirement and joined the Samata Party. In this field also he even proved his brilliance and became the Vice Senior President of the Bihar Pradesh Samata Party. After that he also became a member of the National Executive of the party. Till he became the first Governor of the State of Chattisgarh, he held in this position. On November 1, 2000, he became the governor. He was in the same position till1st June 2003. He assumed the Office of the Governor of Tripura on 2nd June 2003.

He also served as the Chairman of Bihar State Branch of United Nations Students Association. Social services, N.G.O.`s and voluntary organizations are his special areas of interest. He is an avid reader of books, namely Political and Social Science. He has also contributed his articles to several magazines and journals.
