Gates of India are the example of exquisite art work and the introduction of the art and architecture of India. These gates are erected by the different kings to mark the victory or to mark royal events. The British East India Company
and later the British Government in India also built the gates to salute the dead soldiers of British Empire.
Northbrook Gate, Assam
Northbrook Gate was constructed to welcome British viceroy Lord Northbrook who visited Guwahati in 1874. The gate was built near Sukreswar Ghat where the Viceroy anchored his ship. It is the only monument of its kind in this part of Assam and the lone surviving brick architecture from colonial times. For the last 140 years, it has remained a silent spectator of many developments of Guwahati.
Kakatiya Kala Thoranam, Telangana
Kakatiya Kala Thoranam which is also called Warangal Gate is a historical arch in the Warangal district
of Telangana. Warangal Fort has four ornamental gates which originally formed the gates to the now defunct great Shiva temple which are known as Kakatiya Kala Thoranam.
Delhi Gate, Delhi
Delhi Gate is the southern gate in the historic walled city of Old Delhi. The gate links the New Delhi city with the old walled City of Delhi. It stands in the middle of the road, at the end of Netaji Subhash Chandra Road at the edge of the Daryaganj.
Ajmeri Gate, Delhi
Ajmeri Gate was built in 1644, to the south-west of Shahjahanabad with a square plan, has high arched openings. The Sepoy Mutiny
or the first war of Indian Independence in 1857 was fought at this venue also. The road, through this gate, leads to the city of Ajmer
, and hence its name.
