Inception of ETV Network The Ramoji Group conglomerate headquartered in Hyderabad, which runs the Telugu-language Indian daily newspaper Eenadu (implying "today" in Telugu) circulated in the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states, started its own television channel named Eenadu TV on August 27, 1995 in Telugu, as satellite broadcasting took off in India. The network later added channels in other Indian languages to cater viewers of multiple regions, and built a large network of channels providing local news. Acquisition of ETV Network The Ramoji Group divested its television assets to the television broadcasting company TV18, jointly owned and operated in India by NBCUniversal and Network18 Group, in 2013. In March 2015, Viacom 18, another TV broadcasting group again owned by Network18 and American media conglomerate Viacom and jointly operating with TV18, decided to re-brand 5 ETV regional general entertainment channels, namely ETV Marathi, ETV Gujarati, ETV Kannada, ETV Bangla and ETV Odia into Colors Marathi, Colors Gujarati, Colors Kannada, Colors Bangla and Colors Odia respectively. There are currently 20 channels under the ETV Network, broadcasting news, lifestyle, health and fitness and general entertainment programmes in as many as 10 different languages, catering to the viewers of different states and regions. In April 2016, 3 regional news channels were added to the network’s multilingual range of channels, under the brand name of News 18, namely News 18 Kerala, News 18 Tamil Nadu and News 18 Assam NE. They cater to the audiences of Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Assam/Northeast states, being broadcast in Malayalam, Tamil and Assamese language respectively.
