Reiek is one of the major tourist spot in Mizoram
. This is a hilly tourist destination located at about 29 kilometers from Aizawl
, the capital city of Mizoram.
Reiek rest at an elevation of 1548 metres overlooking Aizawl, the capital city and offers the marvellous natural beauty combined with clouds and sun of the surrounding valleys and small hills.
From the part of Reiek, one can see Bangladesh plains, which is of alluvial soil. Reiek Hill is surrounded by thick lush green temperate trees and bushes.
Reiek has a Mizo village. In Reiek, the Mizo tribal people reside there. The Mizo tribal people lead a simple life. It is consisting of the distinctive traditional huts of the different Mizo sub-tribes, Mizo chieftains house, a bachelors dormitory and that of a widow has been created and maintained by Tourism Department of Mizoram for the national and international level tourists.
The houses of Mizo tribal people are fully furnished giving the visitor a peek into the glorious past of the valiant highlanders. A few Mizo modern houses have also been constructed nearby to show the changes that have taken place in the Mizo way of life in keeping pace with the modern developments. The Tourist Department of Mizoram Government in Reiek also has a cafeteria and a resort providing the decent food and accommodation. The main cynosure of Reiek is the annual festival of Anthurium festival. The best time to visit this village is in the month of April, because, in this month, Anthurium festival is hosted.
Anthurium Festival is an annual fiesta promoting Anthurium grown in Mizoram and the rich Mizo customs and traditions at Reiek Tlang to national and international level tourists. Anthurium Festival is organized every year by the Tourism Department of Mizoram and the Horticulture Department of Mizoram with financial support of the Government of India. The purpose of hosting the Anthurium festival is to promote the cultivation and marketing of the enthralling flower and attracting more tourists to the scenic beauties of Mizoram. Anthurium festival showcases the rich and rhythmic cultural dances and games of Mizoram. The tribal fashion shows are also a regular feature of the festival of Anthurium.
The forests division in Reiek hills are home to a fascinating variety of hill birds, including the rare Peregrine falcon which one might see perched on a lofty ledge or swooping on cliff swallows. The Environment and Forest Department of Mizoram has encouraged the national and international tourist to inform the local community before trekking in the small undulating forests of Reiek.
