Early Life of Ronnie Screwvala Ronnie Screwvala was born in the city of Mumbai, Maharashtra, to a Parsi family. His father worked as an executive at the British firms J L Morrison and Smith and Nephew. Ronnie Screwvala did his schooling from Cathedral and John Connon School and completed his higher studies from Sydenham College. During his school days he had a deep inclination towards theatres and also used to perform in professional plays in which he acted with stalwarts like Pearl and Alyque Padamsee. In Death of a Salesman he essayed the role of Harold 'Happy' Loman and also portrayed the character of Cassio in Othello. Later he put an end to his theatre career for starting his toothbrush business. Career of Ronnie Screwvala Ronnie Screwvala began his professional career as a local cable TV operator in Mumbai in the year 1981 under the company Network. During that time only Doordarshan was existent and his company Network offered the service of a three-hour video channel which showcased movies in a particular area of Mumbai. At the same time he also began the production of advertisements and content for Doordarshan including the serials such as Lifeline and Shanti. Ronnie Screwvala established the UTV Group in the year 1990 through which he provided television content to the broadcasters. In less than two decades UTV expanded its horizons and ventured into film, gaming, broadcasting and other business. The first feature film produced by the firm was Dil Ke Jharoke Main. He subsequently produced a number of successful Bollywood films such as Fiza, Lakshya, Main Meri Patni Aur Woh, The Blue Umbrella, The Namesake, Khosla Ka Ghosla, Life in a Metro, Jodhaa Akbar and many more. In 2004, Ronnie launched the Hungama Channel gaining huge success. The channel soon got enlisted amongst the leading children's television channel in India. In 2005, UTV got listed in the Indian Stock Exchange. In February 2012 UTV was took over by The Walt Disney Co. and Ronnie remained with the company as the MD of the Walt Disney Company India. However in October 2013 he handed over his responsibility to Siddharth Roy Kapur, marking his exit from the company as well as the media and entertainment industry for focusing on strategic investments and philanthropy. Other Ventures of Ronnie Screwvala Ronnie Screwvala has established the Society to Heal Aid Restore Educate (SHARE) for the purpose of rural development in Maharashtra. His foundation was later renamed as Swades which has worked extensively for providing drinking water to the village folks. His vision is to empower the communities and enhancing their abilities to transform their own lives. He also owns a private equity business titled Unilazer Ventures Ltd.
