Salman Khan is the most popular actor in Bollywood at present. His latest film Bodyguard is the second highest grossing Bollywood movie of all times.
 
 Salman Khan, Bollywood ActorSalman Khan is one of the most popular actors in India who has been featured in more than eighty Hindi films. He is regarded as the true Superstar of Bollywood that is the Hindi film industry. Salman Khan, lovingly referred to as "Sallu Bhai" by his friends and fans, made his first appearance in Hindi films with a supporting role in the film Biwi Ho To Aisi in the year 1988. But he debuted as the leading actor with the Sooraj Barjatya film Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut in 1989, which was a huge commercial success. Salman received the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut for the film as well. Later he starred in several other blockbuster Hindi movies, namely Saajan (1991), Hum Aapke Hain Kaun (1994), Karan Arjun (1995), Veergati (1995), Judwaa (1997), Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya (1998), Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), Biwi No.1 (1999) and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999).

Salman Khan was honoured with the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. In the recent past, the ace actor has appeared in several major blockbusters and commercially successful films such as Tere Naam (2003), Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004), No Entry (2005), Partner (2007), Wanted (2009), Dabangg (2010), Ready (2011) and Bodyguard (2011). His latest film Bodyguard has emerged as the second highest grossing Bollywood movie ever. Salman Khan is also the founder of the NGO Being Human that provides aides to the deprived and underprivileged. Salman Khan has certainly established himself as one of the most successful actors of Bollywood.

Early Life of Salman Khan
Salman Khan was born as Abdul Rashid Salim Salman Khan on 27th December 1965, in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. He is the eldest son of celebrated screenwriter Salim Khan and his wife Salma Khan (Sushila Charak). Salman has two younger brothers Arbaaz Khan and Sohail Khan and two sisters Alvira and Arpita. The yesteryear Bollywood cabaret dancer Helen is step-mother of the renowned Bollywood actor. Salman Khan completed his schooling from St. Stanislaus High School in Bandra, Mumbai and from The Scindia School in Gwalior State for a few years.

Career of Salman Khan
Salman Khan, Bollywood Actor Salman Khan made his debut with the film Biwi Ho to Aisi in 1988 where he played a supporting role. His first movie in the lead role was Sooraj Barjatya`s romantic blockbuster Maine Pyar Kiya with Bhagyashree released in 1989. The movie was a blockbuster hit. In the 1990s he starred in a series of chartbusters like Sanam Bewafa, Baaghi: A Rebel for Love, Patthar Ke Phool and Saajan. The success of the movies gave Salman a firm footing in the industry. Salman`s association with Director Sooraj Barjatya`s second venture Hum Aapke Hain Kaun in 1994 again turned out to be a smashing hit. It remains one of the highest grossing Indian films ever. He next starred in the hit movie Andaz Apna Apna, alongside co-star Aamir Khan. His pair up with Shahrukh Khan in Rakesh Roshan`s Karan -Arjun gave a further boost to his career. He has also starred in the critically acclaimed movie Khamoshi: The Musical along side Manisha Koirala and in the hit flick Jeet with Karishma Kapoor. In the late 1990s Khan starred in several chartbusters like Judwaa, where he portrayed a dual role, Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya with Kajol, Jab Pyaar Kisise Hota Hai with Twinkle Khanna, Hum Saath-Saath Hain: We Stand United and Biwi No.1. Salman Khan, Ajay Devgan and Aishwarya Rai starrer Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam in 1999 created waves in India and overseas. He also extended a supporting role in the Karan Johar blockbuster Kuch Kuch Hota Hai starring Shahrukh Khan and Kajol in the lead.

In the last decade Salman Khan acted in many more blockbuster movies. In 2000, the Bollywood star featured in Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega and Chori Chori Chupke Chupke with Preity Zinta and Rani Mukherjee. In 2003 he acted in Tere Naam which was a major earner and Salman`s performance was critically acclaimed. His next venture in two chartbuster comedy movies, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004) and No Entry (2005) proved his flair for comedy. After his other few releases such as Baabul, Salaam- E- Ishq and Partner, he first appeared in a Hollywood flick Marigold: An Adventure in India opposite Hollywood actress Ali Larter. After a series of flops Salman Khan again emerged as a reliable and bankable star with Prabhu Deva`s action film Wanted, which released in the year 2009. The movie was a smashing hit but his other two movies in the same year, Main Aurr Mrs Khanna and London Dreams did not fair well.

In the year 2010, Salman featured in Anil Sharma`s Veer, which was commercially and critically unsuccessful. Later that year, he was seen in his brother Arbaaz Khan`s production, Dabangg opposite the newcomer Sonakshi Sinha. The movie was not only a total blockbuster hit but also created several records at the box office. In 2011, Salman Khan had 2 major releases, Ready and Bodyguard. Ready was a huge commercial success and broke box office records. At present the film is the fourth highest-grossing Bollywood film ever. But his next film Bodyguard, opposite Kareena Kapoor, became an ever bigger hit and is rated as the second highest-grossing Bollywood film of all time.

Salman Khan, Bollywood Actor Apart from Hindi films, Salman has also been featured as a successful host of the Reality show, 10 Ka Dum. He has also hosted the popular reality show, Bigg Boss Season 4 and Season 5 on Colors channel. Moreover, he has also produced the children`s film Chillar Party that was released in 2011. Salman Khan was also recently signed as the brand ambassador of the History Channel- TV18.

Charitable Activities of Salman Khan
Salman Khan has established an NGO named Being Human that focuses on supporting the underprivileged and deprived citizens in the country. The establishment aims to sell watches, T-shirts and other products in stores and also online, in order to obtain finance for their operations.

Personal Life of Salman Khan
Salman Khan has been engaged in several charity events and activities through out his career. In the year 2004, the People magazine, US voted him as the best looking man in India and the seventh-best-looking man in the world. Salman Khan also had his life-size wax figure installed at the Madame Tussauds Wax Museum London on 15 January 2008. Through out his career, Salman has been linked with several co-actors, the most renowned relationships being with actress Aishwarya Rai and Katrina Kaif. His long and serious relationship with Katrina Kaif ended in 2010. Salman ahs also been part of several controversies and has been imprisoned multiple times for various cases.

In August 2011 it was revealed by the actor that he suffers from trigeminal neuralgia, which is a facial nerve disorder, also known as the suicide disease.
