The extremely talented actor Rajat Kapoor likes to see his life as a series of accidents. And the series of accidents started with his birth in the year 1961. He was born in a Punjabi family in the old city part of the capital of the Indian subcontinent. He has a brother as well who is into making comic strips. He completed his schooling and college from Delhi. With his education also continued the process of mental, physical and emotional development.

After finishing his college he joined his father`s printing press. He separated with his girl friend around that time and to fill in the void in his life he joined Alliance Franchaise to learn the international language French. Then casually he also joined the theater group out there. Soon theater became his driving force and the focus of his life. He then created a group called Chingari in the year 1983 and most of these friendships continue till date and also have resulted in wonderful collaborations. The meeting with his wife was also a beautiful experience in itself and the first train ride they took together to Santa Cruz partly contributed to the life that he is leading today. Both he and his brother were big time movie buffs and they used to enjoy watching films together.

Rajat Kapoor then shifted to FTII in Pune at the age of 25. He had spent three wonderful years of his life over there learning all the aspects of film direction. He learnt much more about film making in the following three years as an apprentice.
