Purohit

PurohitPurohit is the generic term for `priest`. He is the priest exclusively meant for the royal family or king .He carries out the rituals for the royal family.Purohita stands for `he who is placed in the front`.It was the purohit`s duty to supervise the whole sacrifice conducted by the sacrificial priest (rtvij)and the hotr whose duty was to intone the appropriate hymns of the Rig veda at the sacrifice .Even when the king went for war ,the purohita performed magical rituals to ensure victory.
