Pallavi Joshi

Pallavi JoshiThe extremely talented actress Pallavi Joshi has donned the greasepaint for movies from the tender age of three and since then she has never looked back. Her family was always been in the medium of television. His parents were well-known theater artists and his brother Alankaar was a popular child artist. For her it was a natural progression into the medium. During the early phase of her career she was predominantly instinctive. She also tried to imbibe essentials of the art of acting to a certain extent. She claimed in a recent interview that in the initial years she used to take up a new project keeping just few factors on her mind. In the initial years it used to be simple recognition for her, then it would be the need to be associated with reputed directors and then finally it was money. But then she would not accept an uninteresting role just for the sake of money and would not even work with the best of directors if she were offered peanuts.

Right from her early years Pallavi Joshi had got to work with the best directors including Shyam Benegal, Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Sudhir Mishra, Subhash Ghai, Amol Palekar in some of the most prestigious assignments of the Bollywood film industry. The small screen also found one of the most versatile actresses of all times. She was so eager to know every aspect of serial and film making that in between shoots she never used to sit in her make up room but chose to be on the sets observing and learning the tasks of production. According to her "It was a school where I was taught by the best professionals India has produced…learning cinema as a craft was the result". She has single handedly written and produced a television drama called Aarohan for Doordarshan and it is the only drama shot on an Indian naval base and aboard the INS aircraft carrier Vikrant. She has also been the producer of the huge thrillers like Neha and Sikander. She is also regarded as a great motivator and has eye for even the minutest details. She is also involved with the screening of ideas and converting them into creatively feasible ideas. Her strength lies in converting effectively the most complex problems and ideas into the simplest ones. She considers that to day there are only roles and no characters. As acting remains her first choice she would love to play a character than just a mere role in the play. She point out to her character in Justjoo, which was not half as inspiring in the initial stages. She along with the writer and director took frantic efforts to make the character so popular. She is always seen charged up as an actress and that is one of the main reasons behind her sky-soaring popularity. She doesn`t adhere to a strict regimen and watches a lot of movies to analyze performances. She also considers that acting in television does become monotonous after a considerable span of time. She has been in this medium for more than 28 years and she has really felt the nerve of this monotony. But the irony of this degradation initiated with the advent of the satellite TV in the early part of the 1990s. Though initially it was felt that the programming variety would improve, it has in fact deteriorated for the one and only factor of cost reduction, which holds the center stage in the recent times. The conditions have worsened pay wise as well and the actress is of the view that the situations would have been much different had Doordarshan retained its importance.

Pallavi Joshi in Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai Believed to be one of the most brilliant actresses, Pallavi Joshi has enacted different kinds of roles in her entire career of acting but romance is one aspect where she considers herself to be very weak. Whatever romance she has enacted on screen has come out of her personal experience and out of the very fact that she is married and has experienced the gamut of emotions in her real life. In spite of that she felt that this does not come naturally to her. In the course of admiration she does not have a handful of favorites. Instead she likes to relish performances on whole. She holds great regards for Amitabh Bachhan, Smita Patil, Shah Rukh Khan, Naseeruddin Shah and Om Puri. She believes that these actors can step into the shoes of any character with equal ease and comfort and can portray the individuality of the characters to perfection. She has not imbibed any stylistic elements from these great actors because she wanted to be different from the others and establish her own identity. She realized in her career that loving or admiring a hero is fine but copying him does not bring any respect or fame. The moment when somebody told her that she resembled one particular actress, that very moment she tried to undo that bit, so that she can be recognized as Pallavi Joshi herself. When she started acting on the television she was disillusioned by the quality of movies being made then. Time has come a full circle since then and now she is even open to movies. Being in the same profession as that of her husband definitely helps her a lot. Both are very critical of each other`s work. Her husband likes to tear her work apart and she in turn takes all the opportunity to criticize his. But both of them do that in good spirit because they want each other to be in the best form when they appear in the next round. Among her favorite directors she would definitely like to take the name of her husband with whom she has done Yeh Kahan Aa Gaye Hum, then Govind Nihalni, Amol Palekar and Vipul Shah tops the list. She is in fact indebted to Vipul Shah for bringing out one of the most memorable performances out of her in the famous serial Alpviram.

Pallavi Joshi- Kkehna Hai Kuch Mujhko In the recent times Pallavi Joshi is content doing only one serial at a time. Her recent venture is Kkehna Hai Kuch Mujhko in which she plays the lead protagonist, Reva. In this serial she is playing the role of Reva who is a warm, caring and understanding woman who dotes on her family. She plays an ideal wife and a perfect mother and also a typical Indian housewife whose life revolves around her family. When one fine day she realizes that in playing out the roles of a wife and mother she has somewhere lost her dreams and aspirations and it is this self-realization which leads her to embark upon a journey in search of her own independent self. The main reason behind choosing this project is the belief that woman of today can set out to re-examine the very purpose of her existence and rewrite her own identity. Her main preoccupation these days is the production company she has set up with her husband Vivek. Her filmography includes Daam Kari Kaam in 1971, Andha Yudh in 1988, Agent 777 in 1988, Guru Dakshina in 1989, Trishagni in 1989, Mujrim (NEW1) in 1989, Panaah in 1992, Sooraj Ka Satwan Ghoda in 1993. Her only message to her viewers is that everyone should follow their dreams and while one should fulfill one`s responsibilities with commitment it is important also to have sense of achievement in life. Her fan following sincerely wishes that this extremely talented and versatile actress would scale great heights in the years to come with her natural flair of acting and her immense potential.
