She was well recognized for her role in the very popular underworld movie Vaastav starring the `muscle-man`
Sanjay Dutt. But she won much fame and recognition after her performance in Jungle. She won several beauty pageants. In the year 1993 she won the `Miss World University India` award and the went on to national contest in South Korea and won the `Miss Talent Award`. In the year 1995 she was inaugurated as `Miss Globe` and was crowned the `Miss Globe India`. She was amongst the top 5 finalists and also won the Best National Costume award.

From a very tender age she was interested in the art of acting. When she announced in her family that she wanted to pursue her career in acting all hell broke loose. Her mother and grandmother were both classical singers and they wanted her to join them in their profession of a singer. But when she defied their decisions she walked out with her mother out of their matriarchal family with just an amount of 250 rupees in their pockets. She was only 16 years old at that time and it wasn`t obviously easy for them to make a living out of that meager income. But still she did not loose her hopes and just wanted someone to tell her that she was not wrong in dreaming about a bright future. Soon after that she got a portfolio shot by a known person and just went out and started meeting people. But she had no social contacts at all which made her task extremely difficult. It was indeed a tough struggle for her but she knew that she had already bittered her connections with the world that lay behind her so the only way for her was to move ahead in life.
Kashmira Shah started taking up catalogue assignments and was paid only Rs. 500 for each one. If a day would favor her she used to receive an amount of 750 rupees. There were times that haunted her like anything but in her wildest of dreams also she never felt like giving up and continued with her struggle. All she knew was that she wanted to be an actress and would be trying till the end to give her best shot. She got her first break on the silver screen when she was approached to play a supporting actress in the movie Yes Boss. This came as a huge break in her life and soon her life changed for better. Till then she had participated only in films, theaters and item songs but after `Yes Boss` offers came showering on her and some huge chartbusters saw her in supporting roles and special appearances. She made her mark in the film industry by movies like
Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha, Koi Kissi Se Kam Nahin, Saazish.
Though her roles in these movies were very brief she carved out a niche for her self in the hearts of her fans and producers as well. In another project Dulhaan Banoo Mein Teri the audiences saw her in the lead role. She had also done 2 plays titled as Meena Kumari and Laila. She has also played the female leads in television soaps like Baat Ban Jaye and Saturday Suspense. In the year 2002 she appeared in the lead-supporting role in Janasheen. In 2000 she was also nominated for `Best Female in a Negative Role` at Screen Videocon Awards for the chartbuster Jungle. In the year 2001 she performed an item number in Dil Pe Maat Le Yaar. But gradually she seems to be gravitating towards negative roles and is going into the negative slot. She also remarked in an interview that she feels more comfortable with negative portrayals.

Bikram Saluja and she is a desi Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction. In the film System by Jhamu Sughand she portrays the role of a mafia don. This film is all about the corrupt nureaucratic system and will see her giving her best shot in the performance of a negative role. Debutant director Arvind directs this film and then she would also appear as a bad-ass babe on a bike in
Feroz Khan`s next flicks. She is also going through some discussions for three roles in films, which are made abroad and out them there is one film the storyline revolves around a girl who grows up the same way as she has been born and brought up.
She plays a gynecologist in this movie and being a Hollywood film the heroine had to be an American blonde. She is very much excited about this project of hers where she gets to act with her co-star Anne Bancroft.
