Geeta Rani is the Indian weightlifter .She was born in 16th September 1981. Gita has been a winner of gold medal of the Women`s +75 kg category at the 2006 Commonwealth Games. Sangrur-born Geeta Rani with her hard work and efficiency has proved herself in the national and the international levels. Hence despite having passed only Class VIII, she is now an Inspector in the CRPF. To add to her merit list she has also won three silver medals in Asian Championship in 2004 and a bronze medal in the Afro-Asian Games in Hyderabad in 2003. She started with weightlifting in 1994 with the assistance of her coach Surinder Singh. Geeta Rani has been awarded the Arjuna Award for her outstanding performance in sports.
