Dahod District, Gujarat

The Dahod District, also known as the Dohad District, is situated in the state of Gujarat in western India. The administrative headquarters of the district are located in the city of Dahod.

The district covers a total area of 3,642 sq km, and has a population of 1,636,433 (2001 census). The population density is 449 persons per sq km. The Dahod District came into being on October 2, 1997. It was formerly a part of the Panchmahal District. As boundaries, the district has the Panchmahal District to the west, the Vadodara District to the south, the Jhabua District of the state of Madhya Pradesh to the east, and the Banswara District of Rajasthan state to the north. The people living in the district are mostly rural. Moreover, a majority of the districts residents are Tribals, mostly Bhils. The Mughal emperor Aurangzeb was born in a mosque in the Dahod District.
