Cuttack is the apex of the delta formed by the Mahanadi River in the north and the Kathjodi River in the South. Cuttack is a district in the eastern state of India Orissa with its head quarters in Cuttack. The subdivisions of this district is Cuttack, Athagarh, Banki.The blocks of this district are Choudhar, Salepur, Tigiria, Mahanga, Nichintakoeli, Nima sahi, Damapara, Niali, Narasinghapur, Badampur, Baranga, Kantapara.Covering an area of about 5915 sq km. the population of this district is 2,340,686. It is located at an altitude of about 15 meters and receives an annual rainfall of about 1443.9 millimeters.
The languages spoken here are Oriya ,Hindi and English. Surrounded by the district of Puri, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar and Balasore, the district Cuttack can be called the granary of eastern Orissa as it affords a huge amount of crop throughout the year. Maniabadi, Ghantimunda and Lalitgiri are the largest paddy producing areas of the district.
 Cuttack once a capital of Orissa and the adminstrative headquarters of the district is the commercial capital of the state .The growing industrial centers are Choudwar, Vyasnagar and Dhanamandal .The district of Cuttack has a modern port at Paradeep.Labelled as the land of monuments ,handicrafts and antiquities the district is famous for its filigree works in silver ivory and brass which is one of the major occupation of the people in the district.
The river bank of Cuttack is protected by revetting it with stone a great architecture of the eleventh century .Cuttack also has an international stadium -the Barabati Stadium.The Stadium has a sitting capacity of about thirty thousand persons which also hosts other sports event and cultural functions.
