This extremely versatile actress has won the Filmfare Award for the Best Supporting Actress twice, once for Pet Pyaar Aur Paap in the year 1984 and the second time for Beta in 1992. Besides this she has also been nominated for the above category another eight times. Though she did not manage to win an award in those years, her excellence in acting was not overshadowed by the others. She had already managed to carve out a niche for herself in the hearts of the audiences as well as the filmmakers.

Aruna Irani produced Film - Yeh dil AashiqanaAs a producer also she played a brilliant role by producing films like Anari No. 1 starring Govinda and Raveena Tandon which went to become a raging hit few years back. A tough professional that she is, did not sit idle after the first success but went on to produce another film titled Yeh dil Aashiqana which did not stir the box office but was counted among the moderate hits of the year. After she decided that she would create waves in the avenue of direction as well she made her directorial debut on television in the much popular serial Des Mein Nikla Hoga Chand.

This serial of hers waged a constant battle for eyeballs with the popular K-series, which had very high TRP ratings to their credit. Aruna Irani who likes to describe herself as a novice in the television industry avoids any sort of comparison with the soap queen Ekta Kapoor. She herself admitted in an interview that she holds much admiration for Ekta in her heart. She feels that her show has worked because it was heart-warming serial, a passionate love saga. She did not even ignore the family angle because almost every viewer watching the show has a family of his own. And it is this emotional angle to which her serial is directed. She also believes that she has not only played the emotional card in her serial but it is much more than that.

She is of the opinion that every person who used to watch her serial has a daughter, son, mother and father and they also have their share of likes and dislikes. And she strongly hints that it is the existence of this relationship that has worked for her in the Indian subcontinent. She is also thankful to Star Plus because without the popularity of the channel she could not have attracted audiences. She in fact claims that Star is a popular brand name and has a loyal following and she would be proved wrong if she expected the same kind of response from an ordinary channel. She also goes on to say that every factor contributed to the popularity of her serial, be it sets, location, costumes or characters. She also feels that being an actress her self has helped her a lot in this venture of hers because it is easier for her to detect a good script from the lot that she gets everyday. She tries to gauge whether it will work out for her or not and it is here where her gut feel plays a significant role. She is so acute in her profession that she can sense it will work with the audience because it has touched a stonehearted person like her.

But what makes her confounded is the audience psyche. Sometimes they tend to hate a product which has a modern look and feel about and sometimes they would show the same reaction to a storyline packed with emotions. Lastly she concludes with the remark that the element of experimentation should be there in each and every work. Relationships according to her, remains the same, it is the scenes, which are different. She also cited the two Bollywood movies Daraar and Agnisaakshi in this instance. Both the movies are based on the same subject but the latter one ignited the box-office while the former one failed to make any impact.

According to Aruna Irani the making of a serial today is akin to making a movie. In fact it is like a mini-film. She sometimes wonders that if this is the attention detail required in serials then what would she do in movies. But still then she rules out a positive judgment about her dreams and aspirations. She also believes that comedy is the toughest thing to do and it is very difficult to bring a smile on to somebody`s lips, leave alone laughter. She also feels that there is a lack of comedy writers to make the comic scripts click. The deficiency of good scripts is actually the reason why the comic shows seem like buffoonery shows.

As she is new in the game she is not really bothered about the TRP ratings but she believes that she will fall into the ditch sooner or later. This accomplished actress, producer and director is loved by all the people across the nation and would always be in their hearts by means of her remarkable achievements in the business of acting.
