Udey Chand received acclaim for being the country's very first Arjuna awardee in the world championship series in the arena of wrestling
. Presently, he has retired. Prior to his retirement from the world of sports, Udey Chand was an Indian wrestler who also served as the coach at many wrestling tournaments.
Early Life of Udey Chand

. On 25th June, in the year 1935, Udey Chand was born in Jandli Village, which is situated in Hissar District.
Achievements of Udey Chand
Udey Chand is believed to have begun his career at the Indian Army
. At the 1961 World Wrestling Championships which was organised at Yokohama, he was admired for being the first Indian who won the Bronze Medal in Light Weight (67kg) in the category of freestyle wrestling Udey Chand played in as many as three Olympic Games which consisted of Rome 1960, Tokyo 1964 and Mexico City 1968. He had obtained the 6th Rank in Mexico City. However, Udey Chand was unsuccessful when he played against Mohammad -Ali- Sanatkaran, who was the world champion in wrestling. The game had concluded in a 1-1 draw.
Udey Chand participated twice in the Asian Games
, during which occasion he won two silver medals in the categories of 70 kg Freestyle and 70 kg Greco-Roman at the 1962 Asian Games Jakarta as well as a bronze medal in 70 kg Freestyle at 1966 Asian Games Bangkok. Udey Chand has also played an active role in as many as four world wrestling championships of Yokohama 1961, Manchester 1965, Delhi
1967 and Edmonton 1970. Finally, Udey Chand won a gold medal at the 1970 British Commonwealth Games which was organised at Edinburgh in Scotland. Starting from the year 1958 to 1970, he reigned the arena of wrestling in India by being an unrivalled national champion in wrestling.
Following his retirement from the Indian Army, Udey Chand associated himself with the Chaudhary Charan Singh
Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar as a coach. He worked there as a coach from 1970 till 1996. Today Udey Chand assists young wrestlers and inspired them to participate in wrestling tournaments.
