| |
| Gracy Singh has become a household name in a very short span. Better known as Dinky of the popular serial Aamanat, Gracy Singh has scaled great heights in her career moving from the Zee Television Awards to Oscar Nominations. She enacted the role of the lovable village lass paired opposite the cowboy enacted by Aamir Khan in the Oscar nominated film Lagaan. She carved a niche for herself in the hearts of her fans by her unparalleled charm and grace and rustic looks as well as a neat performance in the character of Gauri in the much-celebrated Hindi film. She was born and brought up in the capital of the Indian subcontinent in a traditional Punjabi family. She started taking Bharatnatyam lessons from a very tender age during her vacations. She finished her schooling from Manav Sthali School and joined a dance troupe called `Planets`. She started performing on stage and simultaneously completed her graduation in the stream of Arts. She also traveled to Mumbai around this time to participate in several ad films and dance shows as well as took up modeling assignments. In the year 1997, the real break came her way when she bagged a role in the famous tele-soap Aamanat. Following that she also fetched small and unnoticed roles in the movies like Hu Tu Tu and Hum Aapkey Dil Mein Rehtey Hain. She likes to be showered with chocolates and her favorite drink is Horlicks. She loves watching TV and her favorite television actress is Sri Devi. She is fluent in three languages namely Hindi, Punjabi and English. Her all time favorite book remains to be Conversations With God by Neale Donald Walsch.
Gracy Singh began her acting career with a popular tele-soap Aamanat which was a virtual acting institute for her. Today her fame and recognition has left her to choose and reject a film according to her likes and dislikes. The Bollywood film industry has recognized her potential as a powerful actor and she has offered pouring on her at regular intervals. Today she does a few films but the roles she enacts in those are women-oriented. Her performance in the much popular movie reveals that this actor is the most endearing new face to have hit the Indian screens in the recent years. Her unparalleled charm lies in her bright eyes, feminine charm and an exuding mix of innocence and playfulness. The success of Aamanat gave Gracy Singh the right platform to enter into the Bollywood film industry. When Ashutosh Gowariker was auditioning for his film Lagaan, he spotted her. Her soft and endearing personality went in her favour in the attempt of persuading the director about her acting skills. Following that she became part of the film, which created history. She also won the Cine Best Debutant Female Award in the year 2001. The year of 2003 marked the release of three of her films Munna Bhai MBBS, Aarman, and Gangajaal. The former one was another super hit and took the box office with a storm. Gracy Singh also turns out to be the actress with best ratio of hits to her credit and also has rightfully earned the epithet of a lucky mascot of the film industry. Another of her film, Muskaan in which she was paired opposite Aftab Shivdasani however bombed at the box-office.
Gracy Singh lives her life on the motto to carry both her personal and professional course with equal dignity and grace. This is also the only reason for her refusal to many of the offers, which came on her way and required bodily exposure. In one of the interviews she was quoted saying, "I want to be known for my acting and not for my body". It was due to this fact that she walked out of Harry Baweja`s Qayamat, in which she was required to wear skimpy outfits. The simple demeanor of the actress reveals the fact that underneath this glam-girl there is hidden a warm, impassionate human soul. She has also been taking Bharatnatyam lessons under Guru Deepak Mazumder and is a nice blend of both a demure personality and an energetic performer. She also holds the firm belief in her heart that dance compliments acting as both are expressions of a similar art form. After the completion of her six months training in dance, she also accomplished her Arangetram also known as debut performance in the dance form of Bharatnatyam on the 25th of March in the year 2001. Gracy Singh is also marked as a levelheaded individual and is often misunderstood to be a persona reflecting snobbish traits. But according to this actor, it is her reserved and introvert nature that makes her shun off from the outer world and interacting with people on a grand scale. She prefers to be a home bird. As chocolates forms her chief weakness she finds it difficult to maintain a proper diet regime, which is very much demanded by the profession into which she is in. It is a true fact that nobody would have given this petite Delhi girl a chance to establish herself in the film industry as a lead actress where the coquettish brunettes rules. But this myth has been proves wrong by this simple yet graceful actor. She also wants to take up morale boosting roles in her career. She also intends to act at least in one film of all the languages in the Indian subcontinent. Besides Hindi films, she has also enacted in important character portrayals in Punjabi and Telegu films. Gracy Singh has not only made an impact on the producers but also has also captivated the hearts of her co-stars with her extreme grace and professionalism. But only time will prove how much Gracy Singh stands up to the faith shown in her by the producers and the co-stars.
