The village of Baragaon (Nalanda) is situated in the Nalanda District of the state of Bihar in India. The state of Bihar has a total of thirty- eight districts and the Nalanda district is one of them. The administrative headquarters of this district are located in the Bihar Sharif town. The Nalanda district is a part of the Patna Division. It covers a total area of 2,367 km. The total population of the district is 1997995. Out of these, 1701777 people live in the rural areas while 296218 people live in the urban areas. The blocks under this district are Harnaut, Islampur (Nalanda), Sarmera, Rahui, Giriyak, Rajgir, Bihar sharif, Chandi, Nagarnausa, Karaiparsurai, Ekangarsarai, Katrisarai, Tharthari, Nursarai, Asthawan, Hilsa, Ben, Silao, Parwalpur and Bind. The main crops grown are paddy, potato and onion. The major industry of the district is that of handloom weaving. The Phalgu and the Mohane rivers pass through this district. Bangpur is one of the villages of this district.
The village of Baragaon is at a distance of 2 kilometers from the Nalanda Railway station in the north- west direction. It is well known for its exclusive Chhath Puja celebrations. There is a large pool in the village where Chhath Puja is performed by the native and nearby villagers. People also come from other parts of the state of Bihar, mainly from the north of Bihar. There is a gigantic ancient shrine of God Surya (Sun temple). People pray to god Surya mainly during the period of the Chhath Puja. Chhath Puja is celebrated two times in the year in the months of Chaitya (March- April) and Kartik (October- November). After the completion of the ceremonies of the great Chhatha Puja the people distribute prasad of the Chhatha Puja among people who take part in the Puja. The people of the village of Baragaon and those of the nearby village perform special pujas dedicated to God Surya every Sunday.
