Bansi, Uttar Pradesh

Lord BuddhaBansi is a city as well as a municipal board in the Siddharthnagar district in the state of Uttar Pradesh in the northern part of the Indian sub- continent. The district headquarters are located in Navgarh. The Siddharth Nagar district is included under the Basti division. The district harbors the town of Kapilavastu, where the renowned Gautama Buddha lived till the age of twenty nine years. This district is a new one born in the late 1980s from the partition of Basti of Uttar Pradesh. It is positioned on the international border of Nepal and India. According to the 2001 census of India the total population of the district is 2,038,598. There are 1,047,573 males and 991,025 females. The mean literacy rate is 43.97%. The main place of tourist attraction is Kapilavastu, the kingdom belonging to the father of Lord Buddha. The name of the Siddharthnagar district has been derived from the name of Buddha`s father.

The exact geographical location of Bansi is 24.87° North and 78.48° East. It has a mean elevation of 370 metres (1213 feet). As per the 2001 India census, Bansi had a population of 35,628. Males and females respectively comprise 52% and 48% of the population. The average literacy rate of Bansi is 54%, lower than the nationwide average of 59.5%. 61% of the males and 39% of the females are literate. 18% of the population is children below six years of age.
