Amrita Saluja aka Roma
The News Reporter Roma of the popular tele-soap `Time Bomb` which is aired on Zee Television.

The journalist of the popular tele-soap Time Bomb, Amrita Saluja was the lively lass who twirled her fingers and rolled her eyes and uttered the dialogue, "Mummy ka magic chalega kya?" in the Whirlpool ad before the renowned actors Ajay Devgan and his wife Kajol took over.

She was indeed a very pampered model and after much time she joined the tellydom. She was very happy in her modeling career and was waiting for the right opportunity to come where she could display her acting talents. She was born and brought up in Jamshedpur. She completed her schooling from Mount Carmel and later on St. Lawrence at Sanawar. Her first job was an ad campaign for Ponds. She claims that she comes from a very conservative family and was not at all comfortable in romancing men and even holding hands is a big issue for her. In the popular serial also she flashes the attitude that she is a married women so anybody should not dare to mess with her.

Amrita Saluja aka Roma The major turning point in her career came with the serial TimeBomb in which she was playing the main female character. Better known as the `Whirlpool Mummy` Amrita Saluja makes her debut with this serial and is doing a fair job. Her character is named Roma Awasthi. She plays the wife of Varun Awasthi, the main protagonist of the soap who is a member of a secret Government agency called Agency to Counter Terrorism. She is also established in her career as a successful News Reporter. She has been separated from her husband for the last one year since the time she had a miscarriage and even when Varun was away on a dangerous mission. She also feels that it is the profession of her husband that is keeping him away from his family. After an impending divorce she gets a lucrative offer to move to Canada.

This exuberant Whirlpool and Ponds girl, Amrita Saluja had been turning down television offers since a long time until she got this offbeat offer from Ketan mehta. When she was cornered in an interview about how she feels to play the wife of the much popular and hot Rajeev Khandelwal she was glib over the whole fact and expresses a convincing gesture. In real life however she is happily married to Rahul Raichand and was both excited and apprehensive about her role of the TV jourmalist Roma Awasrthi. In the serial she was also not made aware of the identity and star status of the Rajeev Khandelwal from before. She also claims that the producers also did not tell her anything about it and as she did not watch late night serials so was completely unaware of her reel husband. After becoming aware however, she made it a point to watch few of the episodes of Kaahin Toh Hoga in which Rajeev was playing the character of a lover. It was in fact very embarrassing for her when her friends ragged her for not being aware of one of the most strikingly handsome television heroes. That helped her in the way that she was not in awe of the character called `Sujal`, when she first met the man who actually played the character. Gradually they developed a professional rapport, which is quite evident from the intense emotional scenes that they enact and which also have a romantic undercurrent.

Rajeev Khandelwal About turning down offers before Time Bomb, the reason she stated in an interview was that she was neither ambitious nor a glamour struck person. She was not even a trained actress. She was also not interested in most of the offers because they were the typical soaps depicting the `saans-bahu` conflict. She also claims that being over-exposed with strenuous shoots for a prolonged telecast was not her cup of tea. Even when was offered Time Bomb she was down with jaundice and the doctor had advised her complete bed rest but this time her producers did not mind waiting for a span of 15 days to meet her. She claims that the actual reason to grab this opportunity of acting in a socio-political thriller was just that it was a weekly serial of 25 episodes only with a backdrop of the horrendous 9/11 catastrophe and she considered it to be an honor to be singled out by Ketan Mehta who is not only a renowned director but have also acclaimed superstars like Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan. This offer also allured her because she was enacting many roles in one.

She was playing the TV journalist as well as an estranged wife and a mother of a small kid. Not only that she was also playing a thrilling role in the counter-terrorist mission. Amrita Saluja in Time Bom 9/11 with Aamir BashirThrough her marital crisis she also gets drawn towards a suave, smooth talking male character played by Aamir Bashir. And this extra-marital fling will make her career graph far more engaging for the audiences. About playing the role of the journalist in this serial she remarks that it was Ketan and Noopur Asthana who have meticulously guided her about the character she was about to play. She was also absorving the noted journalists Barkha Dutt and Sonali Chandra to imbibe the right body language and professional way of working that was required to enact the character and also to add that authentic aura. She was also asked to anchor the theatre premiere `Big Nite` of the three star-studded movies, live. This gave her the practical exposure as far as doing homework for the character of `Time Bomb` was concerned. She did not ever have any direct decisions with soap queen Ekta Kapoor. But if she would be given a choice then she would like to host a chat show or anchor a celebrity guest show. She would in fact find that more interesting and dynamic than playing a melodramatic character in one of the several family drama shows.

The personal life of the model turned actor Amrita Saluja is however completely different. She is blessed with a loving husband and doting mother-in-law who pampers her very much. She is literally regarded as the `bahu-rani`. Whenever she is not shoooting in the mornings her in-laws along with her would sit and watch recorded videos of spiritual discourses by Swami Chinmayanand. She loves experimenting with various Italian delicacies but hardly gets a chance to indulge in her own recipes. Both her husband and her in-laws are supportive of her modeling and acting career and do not have any issues against it. She is enjoying her career and her work to the core and promises to give her fans more of her acting, the experiences of which could be cherished life long.
