Federation of India (GFI) plays a major role in gymnastic in India. It came into being in the year 1951, with primary objective to promote, control, encourage and popularize the game of gymnastic in India. The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) granted its affiliation to the Federation in the year 1952. As India is the second largest populated country after China and 7th largest nation in world, the Gymnastic Federation of India is an important Unit of the Federation of International gymnastic (FIG), Commonwealth Gymnastic Confederation (CGC) and Asian Gymnastic Union (AGU). This federation is typically registered with the Registrar of Societies Delhi under Societies Registration Act, 1957 in the year 1966.
This association has, over the years, become very actively involved with the Olympic Movement and has also started participating in the Olympic Games, the Commonwealth Games, and the Asian Games and in the recognized International Championship/Cup/Competition in gymnastics. Gymnastics Federation of India is an affiliated Unit of the FIG since 1952; GFI is the Founder Member of the CGC and AGU since its inception. The prominent track record of the Federation with there International Origination of gymnastics is an asset for India.
