Srinwanti Chakrabarti, Indian Odissi Dancer
Srinwanti Chakrabarti is one of the Indian classical dancers who has specialised in Odissi form of dance. Srinwanti has proved her excellence and earned a reputation as a dance performer, innovative choreographer and dance educator in India and abroad.
 Srinwanti Chakrabarti, Indian Odissi DancerSrinwanti Chakrabarti had a penchant for dancing and she was inducted into the Odissi Dance form at the tender age of five. Srinwanti has been pursuing the Gharana of Guru Kelucharan Mahapatra for last 20 years. Presently she is pursuing Dance Therapy to extend dance for therapeutic services. Srinwanti is the founder and artistic director of "SRIJATI - a centre for art and culture" which has been successfully operating in Kolkata since 2000. Srijati as a dance troupe under the able guidance of Srinwanti has widely performed throughout India and their works have been highly acclaimed.

Srinwanti has a strong academic career. A convent educated student, Srinwanti has completed her graduation in Sociology from the Presidency College Kolkata and her Post graduation in the same subject from the University of Calcutta. At present she is preparing for her PHD studies.

She has also shown her mettle in research works in the paper which she has written called "Hindu Temple Women (Devadasi) _The Divine Prostitution". She has started giving training in Odissi dance since the year 2000 in different institutions of Kolkata .She has also conducted several dance workshops and demonstrations nationally and internationally. She conducts regular dance classes and gives training in Odissi dance and movements in its four branches in her dance training centre called 'Srijati'. She has conducted several dance workshops, regular dance classes and lecture demonstrations throughout England in 2006, 2007 and 2008 in different educational schools, colleges, arts centers, dance schools and institutes.

3. She ranked first in the Dance Competition organized by Aurobindo Bhawan, Kolkata.

4. She ranked second in the Soroptomist International Dance Competition.

5. She ranked second in the dance competition organized by Rotary Club.

Srinwanti's choreographic dance pieces which have been appreciated highly are Mangalam, Govinda Bolo, Mudra, Khel, Ta Dhin, Durgastuti, Krishnastotra, Ecstasy, Omkar Namah and Raghupati. In England the choreographic productions she has worked on are "Aastaran - the layers", "The Chase" and "Meghdoot". Back home the choreographic production which has given Srinwanti much critical appreciation is "Ahan - the dawn". Srinwanti's other successful choreographic productions are "Abhihita" based on emotions of human life, "Cadence" - her new experimental work in which Srinwanti searches for her own dance vocabulary and "Black November" - a creative work blending dance, theatre and live arts. Her recent work is Barsaat for which she received much appreciation.
