The struggle for Indian independence continued for years basically from the time the East India Company set up its rule. India saw the emergence of some freedom fighters who with their ideologies and principles sought to achieve independence.
Tantia Tope:
He is believed to be a great hero of the freedom movement that began in 1857. Being the Supreme Commander in this war of independence, he challenged the British for a mortal combat. But eventually sacrificed his life for the motherland hence is reckoned as one of the important freedom fighters of India.
Matangini Hajra:
She was a famous Gandhian activist who participated in Gandhi ji`s Civil Disobedience Movement and was also arrested in this regard. After involving herself in many such protests she participated in the Quit India Movement. Arrested many times by British officials she is known as one of the spirited freedom fighters of India for her courage and humane character. She was killed in an open fire where very old she led the protest during the Quit India Movement.
Nataji Subhash Chandra Bose:
The President of the Indian National Congress, Subhash Chandra Bose is a very prominent name in the freedom struggle for India. He set up the All India Forward Bloc, and demanded complete independence opposing Gandhi`s ideas of nonviolence. He also founded the Indian National Army, and imprisoned by the British army many times. Mystery shrouds his death, which is believed to have taken place while flying to Tokyo on 18th August 1945.
Bhagat Singh:
He was born in 1907, and is considered to be one of the most courageous freedom fighters of India. It is believed that he was an early Marxist, and the founder of Hindustan Socialist Republican Association. He was charged with Saunders murder which was basically a mistake occurred while planning to kill Scott. On April 8,1929 he threw bombs on the corridors of the assembly and was then taken prisoner. After an unfair trial, he was executed on 23rd March 1931.
Hari Shivaram Rajguru:
He was a revolutionary of the Indian freedom movement and the accomplice of Bhagat Sing while killing a police officer Saunders in Muzaffarpur, and was hanged on 23rd March 1931, on due charges.
Sukhdev Thapa:
He was a dynamic member of the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association. Hanged for the same case like Bhagat Singh and Rajguru on 23, march, 1931. An active participant, in the revolution that engulfed the Indian scenario he participated in the hunger strike in the jail opposing inhuman conditions in the jails.
Ashfaqulla Khan:
He was an Indian revolutionary who carried the Kakori train robbery along with other young men. He was sentenced to death in reaction to the offence. On 19th December 1927, which listed him among the martyrs of Indian struggle.
Khudiram Bose:
He belonged to Bengal and was one of the youngest freedom fighters of India. He was sentenced to death on account of the Muzaffarpur bombings and other bombing charges. Born in 1889, he was martyred by the age of nineteen.
The struggle for Indian independence saw the emergence of many revolutionaries who didn`t deter while laying down their lives for the motherland. The freedom fighters of India were all impressed by western ideas of revolution and this is evident from their personal diaries. The whole movement eventually led to the country`s independence and the names been immortalized in history.
