Common Entrance Examination for Design
Common Entrance Examination for Design or CEED is a national level entrance test that is organized by the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT, Bombay). This entrance test determines the capabilities of the candidates whether they are eligible for the highly professional design courses or not.

Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai (IIT, Mumbai)Common Entrance Examination for Design or CEED is the entrance test conducted for admissions in the postgraduate fashion degree courses. This entrance test is held on an all India basis. CEED (Common Entrance Examination for Design) is organized by the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai (IIT, Mumbai), on behalf of the Ministry of Human Resources Development under the Department of Education, Government of India. CEED is the mandatory qualifying examination required for admissions to the various postgraduate courses (M. Des.) at the Industrial Design Centre (IIT Bombay), Centre for Product Design and Manufacturing (IISc Bengaluru), Instrument Design and Development Centre (IIT Delhi), and Design Program (IIT Kanpur). Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED) measures the visual perception ability, communication skills, drawing skills and design aptitude of the candidates. Generally, CEED or Common Entrance Examination for Design is conducted in between January and February. The candidates need to remember that just qualifying CEED does not guarantee admission to the professional design programmes. In addition to CEED qualification, the candidates should also need to fulfil the other requirements like tests and interviews of the concerned institutions for getting admission.

Application Forms
The interested candidates can obtain the information brochure and application form from the GATE office, IIT Mumbai either by post or in person. They need to make a payment of a non-refundable requisite amount by making a bank demand draft drawn in favour of `IIT, Bombay`, payable at Mumbai. The candidates can also download the application form from the concerned institute`s official website.

Eligibility Criteria for CEED (Common Entrance Examination for Design)
The aspirants who are interested in appearing for CEED (Common Entrance Examination for Design) need to fulfil certain criteria and academic qualifications -

  • Bachelor`s degree in Engineering/Architecture/Design/Interior Design or any equivalent

  • Bachelor of Fine Arts (4 year professional programme after 10+2)

  • Professional Diploma in Design

  • G.D. Art (5 year programme after 10th) with one year professional experience

  • Master`s degree in Arts / Science / Computer Applications


  • Final year candidates can also apply. Moreover, there is no age bar.

    Pattern of Examination
    CEED or Common Entrance Examination for Design is a single-stage test. Its duration is 3-hours. The test pattern is designed specifically to measure the visual perception ability, design aptitude, drawing skills and communication skills of the aspirants. This test mainly consists of two sections and these are -

  • Visual Perception and Creative Ability Test

  • Written Communication


  • Syllabus
    For CEED (Common Entrance Examination for Design), there is such no pre-defined syllabus. Candidates need to prepare as per the question pattern of this entrance test. The students must remember that the written communication test measures their ability to express their thoughts precisely on a particular topic and to understand a given passage in English language and presenting its brief summary. The visual perception section tests the candidate`s visual sensitivity, imagination as well as his/her creativity

    Selection Process
    The candidates are short listed on the basis of their performance in the written test. However, the qualified candidates should have to apply to respective institutes and fulfill their requirements in order to get admission.
