Subodh Kant Sahay is the representative of the Ranchi constituency of Jharkhand. Despite being a member of the 14th Lok Sabha of India, Subodh Kant Sahay is also a member of the Indian National Congress. This former Union Minister of State for Home during the time of V.P. Singh later became the Minister of State in Ministry of Food Processing Industries during the Manmohan Singh government.
This political figure was born on 11 June 1951 in Latehar (Bihar). After completing his early education, he passed B.Sc. and then he studied LL.B at A.N. College,
Patna and
Ranchi University. His father is Late Shri Brijdeo Sahay and mother is Late Smt. Indrani Devi. Mr. Sahay was married to Smt. Rekha Sahay on 28 March 1991 and has a daughter.
Subodh Kant Sahay was the member of Bihar Legislative Assembly (three terms), Member of Public Accounts Committee, Bihar Legislative Assembly (four years); Member of Committee of Privileges, Bihar Legislative Assembly (two years); Member of Library Committee, Bihar Legislature during his tenure of political period from1978-1989. He was elected to 9th
Lok Sabha in 1989 and became the member of Committee on Petitions, Bihar Legislative Assembly (three years).
In the later years of his political career, he became Union Minister of State, Home Affairs in November 1990. He also remained as Union Minsiter of State, Information and Broadcasting and Home Affairs from November 1990 - June 1991. He was re-elected to 14th Lok Sabha in 2004 and on 22 May 2004, he served the Indian government as the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge), Food Processing Industries. Later after two years, 29 January 2006 onwards Sahay served as the Minister, Food Processing. Again in May 2009, Sahay was re-elected as the MP from Ranchi.
Apart from being an active political figure of India, Subodh Kant Sahay was actively involved in the Non-Aligned Student and Youth Organisation. He was the Chairman of the organisation. Since the days of his student life, Sahay was involved in social and cultural activities. At that time, he organised several National and State Level programmes. He also took initiative for the welfare of the youths and came forward to help the unfortunate of the underprivileged and minority communities. He was engaged with well known Non-Governmental Organizations that deal with health and rural development. Sahay took active participation in Jai Prakash Movement. He also encouraged sports and boosted several sports activities amongst the rural youth. He remained as General Secretarty of Yuva Janata for three years, General Secretarty of Janata Dal for 6 months and Janata Party for two years. For two years, he remained as the working President of Yuva Janta and President of Yuva Janata for three years.
This important political figure visited many Western countries and represented India in those countries.
