Ashok Chavan was born on 28th October in the year 1958 in Mumbai. He is the present chief minister of
Maharashtra and was preceded by Vilasrao Deshmukh. Chavan represents the
Indian National Congress. Previously he was the minister of Cultural Affairs, Industries, Protocol and Mines in the government under Vilasrao Deshmukh.
Ashok Chavan is the son of Shankar Rao Chavan who was a Maratha leader and the former chief minister of Maharashtra. Ashok Chavan did his graduation in science and completed his Master degree in Business management. He is married to Mrs. Ameeta Ashok Chavan and has two daughters.
Ashok Chavans initial political career began as the General Secretary of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress committee. He was elected as the Member of Parliament from Nanded
Lok Sabha constituency in the year 1987-88. In the year 1992 he was elected as M.L.C from the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Constituency and shortly after he joined as Minister of State for Public works, Urban Development and Home in March 1993. Chavan became the minister of Transport, Ports, Cultural Affairs and Protocol in 2003. In the very next year Chavan became the minister of Industries, Mining, Cultural Affairs and Protocol. He is the president of Sai Sevabhavi Trust Nanded, a charitable voluntary organisation. Ashok Chavan was sworn in as the chief minister of Maharashtra on the 8th of December in 2008.
