
Ashok Chavan is a former chief minister of Maharashtra. He was sworn in on 8th December 2008, as the chief minister of
Maharashtra, after
Vilasrao Deshmukh resigned from the post. He is a member of the
Indian National Congress party. Chavan also served as Ministry for Mines, Cultural Affairs, Industries and Protocol in Vilasrao Deshmukh government. His tenure as the chief minister of Maharashtra ended on 9 November 2010. Ashok Chavan is also the President of a charitable voluntary organisation named Sai Sevabhavi Trust Nanded.
Early Life of Ashok Chavan
Ashok Shankarrao Chavan was born on 28th October in the year 1958 in
Mumbai, Maharashtra. Chavan is son of Shankar Rao Chavan who was a Maratha leader and one of the former
Chief Ministers of Maharashtra. They are the first father and son team in the history of Maharashtra to be appointed as chief ministers. He completed his graduation in Science and has also obtained Master`s in Business Management degree.
Political Career of Ashok Chavan
Ashok Chavan`s initial political career began as the General Secretary of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress committee. He was elected as the Member of
Indian Parliament from Nanded
Lok Sabha constituency in the year 1987-88. In the year 1992, Chavan was elected as M.L.C from the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Constituency and shortly after he joined as Minister of State for Public works, Urban Development and Home in March 1993. Ashok Chavan became the minister of Transport, Ports, Cultural Affairs and Protocol in 2003. In the very next year, Chavan became the minister of Industries, Mining, Cultural Affairs and Protocol.

Ashok Chavan is married to Ameeta Ashok Chavan and the couple has two daughters.
