The lac crafts of Andhra Pradesh are admired for the major details the artisans follow while creating the artefacts. Andhra Pradesh is well known for the lac products that are created in the village Etikoppakka, which is about 80 km from Vishakapatnam. The craftsmen involved in this craft prefer to use hand or machine operated lathe to create different articles out of lacquer. Sometimes delicate items are created with the hand lathe and a particular process, which is called lac turney method, is followed by the artisans of this state. This process involves pressing the lac stick on the wood items where lac is to be attached or glued. The wooden item keeps revolving and the heat generated by friction makes the lac soft finally the lac adheres to the article. In making such items, vibrant and solid colour lacquering is preferred by the artisans. The traditional way of lacquering allows natural colours to make items but in recent times the artisans sometimes use chemical dyes for giving the items the glow and perfection.

The lac crafts of Andhra Pradesh hold an age long tradition and different items that are created involves creativity, persistence and complete dedication for the work. The artisans create toys, utility items like bowls, jars, and containers, and ornaments like bangles and earrings. This state is famous for lac bangles that are studded with stones, beads, glass and mirrors. Sometimes the lac bangles are embellished with little shards of gold and semi precious stones.

The lac crafts of Andhra Pradesh have flourished in the local market and are well appraised for the beautifully created bangles that are admired not only by the local people but the people of the entire country. The tourists who come to this place also take these lac items as souvenirs.
