Guru Nileshwar Mukharjee is a prominent Manipuri dancer of India, who has become famous all across the world. Guru Nileshwar Mukharjee is well known to Manipuri society and has a great contribution in the domain of Manipuri Dance. Rabindranath Tagore was fascinated with a Ras performance in Sylhet in 1920 by Guru Nileshwar Mukharjee and he invited him in Shantiniketan. This was an epoch making events in the history of Manipuri Dance and within a decade it crossed its regional as well national fields and made the name of Guru Nileshwar Mukharjee internationally famous.
