Bura-Chapori Wildlife Sanctuary
Bura-Chapori Wildlife Sanctuary is best known for being home to the Bengal Florican.

The Bura-Chapori Wildlife Sanctuary is situated in the Sonitpur district of Assam. Located on the north bank of the river Brahmaputra, it is one of the most famous sanctuaries in the north-eastern part of India. The sanctuary covers an area of about 44-sq-kms and plays an important role in preserving the rich variety of wildlife in the region. This ravishing wildlife sanctuary is considered as a paradise for innumerous migratory birds. The sanctuary is also famous for being the ideal natural habitat to the famous bird species, Bengal Florican.

The natural vegetation in the Bura-Chapori Wildlife Sanctuary is quite rich, with plenty of important plant species. The Himalayan Mountains dominate the landscape of the sanctuary and the neighbouring state of Arunachal Pradesh. Several varieties of plant species are found in the sanctuary and most of them have medicinal and commercial values. The sanctuary also provides shelter to innumerous flowering trees that are truly admiring. The overall eco-system of the sanctuary has made it an excellent abode for a variety of animals.

The Bura-Chapori Wildlife Sanctuary is home to numerous varieties of flora and fauna species. The mammal fauna species found in the sanctuary include the endangered or threatened species and many of them need proper conservation. Some of the most important mammal fauna species include the Great Indian One Horned Rhinos, Civet Cat, Asiatic Buffalo, Leopard Cat, Wild Boar, Barking Deer, Otter and also a variety of Reptiles, Insects and Fishes. The reptile species found in the sanctuary include several varieties of Snakes.

Apart from playing a vital role as preserver and protector of Indian wildlife, the Bura-Chapori Wildlife Sanctuary is also contributing hugely to the state`s tourism sector. The extraordinary scenic beauty of the sanctuary attracts several nature lovers from all around the world. The tourists come and visit the sanctuary to spend quality time on the lap of nature. The sanctuary is a coveted haunt of bird lovers who sit in the wilderness and watch the colourful and disciplined birds go about their daily lives. The best time for visiting the Bura-Chapori Wildlife Sanctuary is between the months of November to March. The management of the sanctuary and also the State Government of Assam has arranged for certain facilities for the tourists like accommodation and wildlife safari. The sanctuary provides a pleasant atmosphere for the city people to get rid of their daily routine.
