North East India

North East India is an enchanting land filled with Blue Mountains, Green Valleys and Red Rivers. The land is nestled deep in the Eastern Himalayas in northeastern part of India. The North East India shares 2,000 km of border with Bhutan, China, Myanmar and Bangladesh.

The land is blessed with natural beauty, wild life and colorful flora and fauna. The North Eastern part of India is the most beautiful Eco-Tourism destination in South Asia. North East India is defined as the hidden treasure of India. According to Tony Howard, "If India was the Jewel in the Crown of the British Empire, the remote North East of that country is its Hidden Jewel"

The region comprises of seven states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and the latest inclusion Sikkim.

brahmaputra river assamAssam lies beneath the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas and is bounded on the north by Bhutan and to the east by Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, and Manipur, to the south by Mizoram and Meghalaya and to the west by Bangladesh and Tripura. Assam is described as the land of Red River with the Brahmaputra, and the Blue Hills surrounding it.

Arunachal Pradesh boarders the state of Assam to the south, Nagaland to the southeast, Myanmar lies to the east of the state, Bhutan to the west. The capital of the state is Itanagar. Meghalaya is one of the smaller states of India. The state is bordered by Bangladesh on the south and by Assam on its North. Along the Northern borders of the State runs the Brahmaputra River.

nagaland KohimaNagaland is one of the smallest states of Indian Union. It is located at the far northeastern part of India. Nagaland borders the state of Assam to the west, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam to the north, Myanmar to the east and Manipur to the south. The capital of the state is Kohima.

Manipur is a state in northeastern India. Manipur is bounded on the north by Nagaland, south by Mizoram, west by Assam and east by Myanmar. The capital of Manipur is Imphal.

Mizoram is sandwiched on the east and south by Myanmar and on the west by Bangladesh.

tripura neermahalTripura is surrounded by Bangladesh on the north, south and west. To its east lie Assam and Mizoram. The capital of Tripura is Agartala.

Sikkim Sikkim is situated in the core of the Himalayas. It is the least populous state in India. Sikkim is a thumb-shaped state. Himalayan ranges surround the northern, eastern and western borders of Sikkim in a crescent shape. It is borderd by Nepal in the West, the Chinese Tibet Autonomous Region to the north and on the east by Bhutan. West Bengal borders Sikkim to the south.
