St. John`s Medical College, Bangaluru is a `5 Star` graded college by NAAC, in India.

St, John`s Medical College (SJMC) is one of the premiere and oldest medical institutions in the state of Karnataka. The college came into existence in the year 1963 and is located in the city of Bangaluru. The college has shown excellent academic performance since its inception and hence, it has been rated as a `5 Star` institution by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The college is affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Bangaluru and is also recognised by the Medical Council of India (MCI), New Delhi.

St. John`s Medical College, Bangaluru, Karnataka St. John`s Medical College (SJMC), Bangaluru was established by the Catholic Bishop`s Conference of India, with a view to serve the humanity by producing qualified doctors. The Supreme Court of India has declared the college, as standing on a different footing altogether among the private medical colleges in the matter of admissions made strictly on the basis of merit.

St. John`s Medical College (SJMC), Bangaluru offers several courses in different disciplines of medical science at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The college offers graduate, postgraduate, diploma and super specialty degrees that are recognized by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Bangaluru. The college is working to train healthcare professionals, especially to give service in the medically underserved areas of the country. The students of the college execute a bond to serve in such areas for two years after their graduation. The students are committed to addressing the desperate health needs of these un-reached rural populations. The college admits a total of 726 students in its Medicine and Paramedical courses, every year.

St. John`s Medical College (SJMC), Bangaluru follows certain rules and regulations while admitting students. The regulations are subject to change according to the regulations of the Medical Council of India (MCI), Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) and the Court decisions. For getting admitted in the MBBS course of the college, the candidates are required to have passed two-year Pre-university examination conducted by the Department of Pre-university Education, Karnataka State. They should pass the examination with English as one of the subjects, and Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects. They should also have passed subjects of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology individually.

The candidates are required to have passed any other examination conducted by Boards/Councils/Intermediate examination established by State Governments/Central Government, and recognized as equivalent to two-year Pre-university examination by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS)/Association of Indian Universities (AIU), to get admitted. They should pass Intermediate examination in Science of an Indian university/Board/Council or other recognized examining bodies, with Physics, Chemistry and Biology, to be eligible for admission. They should also have passed first year of the three-year degree course of a recognized university with Physics, Chemistry and Biology including a practical test in these subjects provided the examination is a `University Examination`. The candidates shall have also passed subjects of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology individually in the Pre-university or other examinations mentioned above.

According to the rules and regulations for admission in St. John`s Medical College (SJMC), Bangaluru, the candidates are required to have passed B.Sc. examination of an Indian University. They are provided not to pass the B.Sc. examination with not less than two of the following subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany, Zoology). They are also provided to pass the subjects of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology individually in the qualifying examinations mentioned above.

There are a large number of Preclinical, Paraclinical, Clinical and Super-Speciality departments in St. John`s Medical College (SJMC), Bangaluru. Some of the major departments of the college include the department of Anatomy, Biochemistry, Clinical Biochemistry, Physiology, Forensic Medicine, Microbiology, Pathology, Clinical Pathology, and Pharmacology etc. The Clinical departments of the college include the department of Anaesthesiology, Community Medicine, Dermatology, Dental Surgery, Emergency Medicine, General Medicine, General Surgery, Paediatrics, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PMR), Psychiatry, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, Otorhinolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery (ENT) and Radiology. There are a large number of Super-Specialty departments in the SJMC, Bangaluru also and they include the department of Cardiology, Cardiac Thoracic surgery, Gastroenterology, Gynaecologic Oncology, Nephrology, Neurology, Neuro Surgery, Pediatric Surgery, Pain and Palliative Care Unit, Plastic Reconstructive surgery & Burns, and the department of Urology.
