Indian Men`s Hockey Team
Indian Men`s Hockey team has earned a lot of recognition and brought glory to the nation.

Adrian D Souza, Indian Men`s Hockey TeamThe Indian Men`s Hockey Team is easily one the world`s better present day teams, and has a remarkably distinguished record in its history. Although the game has for long been losing ground to the more popular cricket, Hockey players have consistently performed with distinction and without recognition in several international tournaments.

Hisrory of Indian Men`s Hockey Team
India has a rich history of dominating the world of Hockey for years. The Indian Men`s Hockey team was founded in 1928 and it was the first non-European team to be a part of the International Hockey Federation (FIH). The team started showing its talent and excellence on the Hockey field from that year, when it participated in the Olympic Games for the fist time. India was an unknown opponent to all the other teams in the championship. The Indian team dominated all its opponents throughout the tournament and won every match to clinch the Gold medal. The team did not concede even a single goal in the entire tournament.

After the extraordinary performance in the 1928 Olympic Games, the Indian Men`s Hockey team became famous in all over the world. The team continued its wonderful run in the Olympics for a long period and it won six straight Olympic Gold medals from 1928 to 1956. During this period, the Indian team won 24 matches in Olympics and conceded only 7 goals. However, this extraordinary run came to an end in the 1960 Olympic Games, when it was defeated by the Pakistan team in the finals. The Indian team`s performance in the Olympic Games never got even closer to that of the golden era again and it won only two Olympic Gold medals in 1964 and 1980, after its dominating run was over. The Indian Men`s Hockey team has so far won 8 Gold medals, 1 Silver medal and 2 Bronze medals in the Olympic Games.

Apart from the Olympic Games, the Indian team has shown its expertise in some other prestigious international Hockey tournaments, as well. The Indian team has participated and played well in the tournaments like the World Cup, Asian Games, Asia Cup, Champions Trophy, Champions Challenge, Commonwealth Games, Azlan Shah Hockey Tournament etc. It won several medals and trophies from these tournaments so far.

Prominent Indian Hockey Players
India has produced numerous legendary Hockey players, who have stunned the world of Hockey with their extraordinary talent. They always played well for the Indian Men`s Hockey team and helped the team in becoming and remaining one of the super powers of Hockey. Some of the legendary Indian Hockey players include Dhyan Chand, Adam Sinclair, Adrian D Souza, Ajit Pal Singh, Arjun Halappa, Baljit Singh Dhillon, Bir Bahadur Chettri, Dhanraj Pillay, K. D. Singh, Dilip Tirkey, Leslie Claudius etc.

Recent Performance of Indian Men`s Hockey Team
Recent performances of the Indian National Men`s Hockey Team have continued to be strong, though the game has steadily lost ground to the far more popular sport of cricket. At the 2010 Commonwealth Games, India placed second, winning a silver medal. India also won the 2007 Asia Cup held in Chennai, and has always been a strong performer in the tournament, which features several prominent Hockey teams. India is also a consistent champion at the Sultan Azlah Shah Cup (featuring 10 teams, including the Netherlands and Germany), leading the teams table by winning the trophy a total of five times.

The Indian Men`s Hockey team can be justifiably called world class, with a distinguished history of dominating the game in almost all tournaments and formats.
