
Gurudwara literally in Punjabi means the doorway to the Guru". It is a Sikh place of worship and also referred to as a "Sikh temple". The Sikh religion is spread in all over the country. It is located on the bank of a glacial lake Hemkund or Lok Pal. The shrine is encircled by seven snow clad peaks and their associated glaciers. According to the Holy Granth Sahib, it is believed that Guru Gobind Singh, the 10th Guru of the Sikhs had meditated on the shores of a lake. Gurudwara Mattan Sahib, Mattan, Anantnag, Jammu and Kashmir is also popular as Gurdwara Guru Nanak Dev. It is built in the memory of Guru Nanak and is situated at a distance of 60 kilometer from Srinagar. It is said that Guru Nanak Dev held a discourse with Pandit Brahm Das. Gurudwara Bangla Sahib is in New Delhi and originally it was the place which served as the Bungalow or haveli of Mirza Raja Jai Singh.
Gurudwara Nanak Jhira Sahib-Bidar is considered to be the historical shrine among the Gurudwaras in India. It is situated in Bidar, in Karnataka and is located at a short distance off one edge of the plateau on which Bidar is located.
