Tannishtha Chatterjee is popularly known as the "Queen of Parallel Cinema". He is a fine actress and has won many international awards.

Tannishtha Chatterjee, Indian ActressTannishtha Chatterjee is a Delhi-born Bengali Indian actress. She came into prominence after her best-known performance in Brick Lane (2007), the film that was adapted from Monica Ali`s best selling novel of the same name.

Tannishtha Chatterjee was nominated for the British Independent Film Awards as the best actress for Brick Lane along with actresses like Judi Dench and Anne Hathaway. The notable performances of Tannishtha Chatterjee include the character of Masha in Academy Award winning German director Florian Gallenberger`s film Shadows of Time, which is also known as Schatten der Zeit in German and also the Bengali film Bibar for which she won the best actress in Osian film festival 2006 and the BFJA awards 2007. Tannishtha Chatterjee is working both with Indian and International directors.

Tannishtha Chatterjee is a student of Chemistry from Delhi University and then went to National School of Drama. Thereafter she worked in India and Europe with reputed theatre directors. Her first film Swaraj was acclaimed with a National Film Award. Tannishtha Chatterjee`s performance received positive reviews in German film Shadows of Time. It took Tannishtha Chatterjee to International film festivals like Toronto and Berlin. Thereafter she did an Indo French film; Let the Wind Blow also called Hava Aney Dey directed by Partho Sengupta. This film too won the best film award in and Durban film festival. Following these, Tannishtha Chatterjee acted in various films like "Strings", "Kasturi" and "Bibar". Bengali film Bibar won her the vital acclaim and best actress awards. Her work in a British film Brick lane was directed by Sarah Gavron and gave her international exposure and recognition.

In the upcoming film, Tannishtha Chatterjee is expected to share the screen with Martin Sheen. The Indian media often refers Tannishtha Chatterjee as the Princess of Parallel Cinema. Being a trained Hindustani Classical vocalist, Tannishtha Chatterjee also sang for movies like Road, Page 3 and her own films Shadows of Time.
