Bournvita Quiz Contest is one of the most famous quiz competitions in India that started on Indian Radio and later took a bigger platform on Indian Television. The Cadbury Bournvita Quiz Contest began on April 12, 1972. Sponsored by Cadbury India, this show was originally held live in cities across the country. Then it was conceptualised as a radio show in 1994 and later as a television show on Zee TV. Later, Bournvita Quiz Contest was shifted to Sony Entertainment Television. Derek O'Brien hosted the television show. However, Bournvita Quiz Contest earned its real popularity as a radio show, hosted by the brilliant quizmaster Ameen Sayani.
According to the organizers of Bournvita Quiz Contest they searched for children with proven talents and had an authentic certificate by their school. The children who participated in Bournvita Quiz Contest must be able to present themselves clearly in Hindi or English and should be able to balance their academics with their extracurricular activities. Each team of this quiz contest comprised students from various recognised schools of India.
The Bournvita Confidence Champion was organised in 2006, declaring Palak Muchhal (a singer) from Queens, Indore as the winner. The runner-up was Kiran Pathakota (a mridangam player) from Bangalore. The winner of Confidence championship 2007 was a boy from Ajmer who won a trip to Europe while the runner up was Ritam from Kolkata. Bournvita Quiz Contest became a popular interactive show in radio and later earned vast recognition through television. Besides the school students and youngsters, the adults loved the show too. The framing of questions in Bournvita Quiz Contest was exclusive and quite different from the other contemporary quiz competitions.
