Sudhir Mishra is an Indian film director and scriptwriter most renowned for directing critically acclaimed films like
Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi, Dharavi and
Chameli. Sudhir Mishra has completed his graduation from Delhi University, it was in here that he came across Badal Sircar, and formed a theatre group titled Workshop Theatre, and worked on several plays with him.

After working for one and half year with Badal Sarkar, Sudhir Mishra was deeply influenced and inspired and left for Pune to work in mainstream cinema. In Pune, he spent time at FTII, (
Film and Television Institute of India), Pune, where his elder brother, Sudhanshu Mishra, taught him much about the trends and styles of contemporary cinema. He himself credits his elder brother to be his teacher. Incidentally, Sudhir never studied at the institute himself.
Sudhir Mishra traveled to
Mumbai in 1980, and started his career as an assistant director and scriptwriter in Kundan Shah`s comedy classic Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron (1983). Later Sudhir Mishra also worked with Saeed Akhtar Mirza in Mohan Joshi Hazir Ho! (1984) and with
Vidhu Vinod Chopra in the film Khamosh (1985). Sudhir Mishra made his directorial debut with the film, Yeh Woh Manzil To Nahin in 1987, which won the National Film Award for Best First Film of a Director. In future went on to make commended films like Is Raat Ki Subah Nahin (1996), Main Zinda Hoon (1988) and Chameli (2003). The film Chameli starred Kareena Kapoor and Rahul Bose, while the story revolved around the lifestyle of prostitutes. The 2005 film
Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi is one of the most acclaimed films by Sudhir Mishra, featuring Kay Kay Menon,
Chritrangada Singh,
Shiney Ahuja and
Ram Kapoor. Next came the film Khoya Khoya Chand in December 2007, again featuring
Shiney Ahuja,
Rajat Kapoor and
Soha Ali Khan. The film reflects the lifestyle of celebrities with composure with the 1950`s film industry as its backdrop.
