Sudhir Mishra has been the film director and scriptwriter for several critically acclaimed Bollywood films.

Sudhir Mishra, Indian DirectorSudhir Mishra is an Indian film director and scriptwriter most renowned for directing critically acclaimed films like Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi, Dharavi and Chameli. Sudhir Mishra was born in Lucknow. His grandfather Dwarka Prasad Mishra was the ex- chief minister of Madhya Pradesh and his father, DN Mishra, was the founder member of Lucknow Film Society. He completed his studies from Delhi University. There he came across Badal Sarkar with whom he formed a theatre group, Workshop Theatre and worked on several plays with him. After working for one and half year with Badal Sarkar, Sudhir Mishra was deeply influenced and inspired and left for Pune to work in mainstream cinema. In Pune, he spent time at FTII, (Film and Television Institute of India), Pune.

Career of Sudhir Mishra
Sudhir Mishra traveled to Mumbai in 1980, and started his career as an assistant director and scriptwriter in Kundan Shah`s comedy classic Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron (1983). Later Sudhir Mishra worked with Saeed Akhtar Mirza in Hazir Ho in 1984 and with Vidhu Vinod Chopra in Khamosh 1985. Sudhir Mishra made his directorial debut with the film, Yeh Woh Manzil to Nahin in 1987. In future he went on to make commended films like Is Raat Ki Subah Nahin (1996), Main Zinda Hoon (1988) and Chameli (2003). The film Chameli starred Kareena Kapoor and Rahul Bose. The 2005 film Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi is one of the most acclaimed films by Sudhir Mishra, featuring Kay Kay Menon, Chritrangada Singh, Shiney Ahuja and Ram Kapoor. He next directed the film Khoya Khoya Chand in December 2007, again featuring Shiney Ahuja, Rajat Kapoor and Soha Ali Khan. The film reflects the lifestyle of celebrities with composure with the 1950`s film industry as its backdrop.

Awards and Honours of Sudhir Mishra
In 1987 Sudhir Mishra got the Indira Gandhi Award for Best First Film of a Director for the movie Yeh Woh Manzil to Nahin. In 1989 he got the National Film Award for Best Film on Other Social Issues for the flick Main Zinda Hoon. He next got the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi for Dharavi in 1992. He received the Filmfare Best Story Award for Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi in 2006. In 2010 Mishra won the prestigious Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (French Government) France`s knighthood.
