The Deccan College of Medical Science (DCMS) was established in the years of 1985 and is situated in the city of Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India. The medical college was established exclusively for the Muslim minority students, who live in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh and the college offers the course of MBBS to them. The college admits 150 students every year, at present. However, by the course of time, the primary benefits of the medical college have been extended to the non-Muslim students. The college is affiliated to the NTR University of Health Sciences, located in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh.
The Deccan College of Medical Sciences (DCMS) was established with the permission of the State Government of Andhra Pradesh and it has permanently been recognised by the Medical Council of India (MCI). The DCMS follows the syllabus prescribed by the University for MBBS course as recognised by Medical Council of India. The rules, regulation or orders that the management of the college observes are applicable to the minority institution without violating the rights conferred under Article 30(1) of the constitution of India.
The Muslim Minority Trust i.e. Dar-us-Salam educational trust established the Deccan College of Medical Sciences (DCMS) under the provision of Article: 30(1) of the constitution of India. The trust is also in charge of administering the college and it takes help of the experienced Administrators and Doctors, for doing so. There is a (9) storied hospital, named as Owaisi Hospital & Research Centre attached to the DCMS and some of the other hospitals like Princess Esra Hospital, South Central Railway Hospital, are also situated adjacent to the DCMS. The hospital building houses the Pharmacy, the Nursing and the Physiotherapy colleges.
The Deccan College of Medical Sciences (DCMS), Hyderabad offers facilities for the researchers for performing various research activities, in various fields of medicine. The college also offers a number of courses in its various departments. The Department of Physiology of DCMS is doing studies on PULSE and the Department of Gastroenterology is running a project on Liver Cell Transplantation that is a unique type of research work in the whole world. Apart from that the Owaisi Hospital & Research centre is conducting research in Reproductive Technology. A training programme for the I.P.S. probationers from National Police academy is being conducted in the Department of Forensic Medicine in DCMS. Apart from the research works, the Deccan College of Medical Sciences (DCMS), Hyderabad has also conducted several conferences and workshops in Pharmacology and Biochemistry. The courses that the DCMS offers to the students include MBBS, in the undergraduate level. The Postgraduate degree and diploma courses of the DCMS include D.A. in Anaesthesia, D.G.O in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, M.D. in Radiology and Master of Surgery (M.S).
