
Buddhadeb Dasgupta is a well-known poet and contemporary Indian filmmaker of great repute. His lyrics found in poetry form have been extended to cinema as well. During the early stages of his film career, Dasgupta made several films that were inspired by
Satyajit Ray`s realistic film genre. However, later he switched over to other forms of films. Some of his most famous films are Bagh Bahadur, Charachar, Tahader Katha and Uttara. He was a passionate student of economics at the prestigious
Scottish Church College and at the
University of Calcutta.

At the Spain International Film Festival in Madrid on May 27, 2008, Buddhadeb Dasgupta was honored with the lifetime achievement award. Buddhadeb Dasgupta`s daughter, Alokananda Dasgupta is doing musical studies at York University. His elder daughter, Rajeshwari Dasgupta (Ghose) is also a trained classical pianist and a ex- copywriter at Ogilvy & Mather where she has led creative campaigns for several Indian companies and conglomerates. Buddhadeb Dasgupta is a famed persona in the Indian film industry.
