Bengali Cinema Houses, scattered throughout West Bengal, are impressive with their screens and sound systems. In the present times we see a lot of Cineplex and multiplexes that have come up.

There are certain cinema houses in West Bengal where only Bengali films are released. Owing to the problems in the Bengali film industry during the mid 90's these Bengali cinema houses ran into huge losses. While some recovered, the others were forced to shut down. However with time Tollywood (Bengali film industry) stabilised itself. As a result some of the cinema halls reopened. One of the many cinema houses revived during this time was the Star Theatre. Originally only plays were performed in this theatre hall. However due to the poor financial state the hall was forced to shut down. It was once gain revived and this time it showcases films.
Besides reviving the old Bengali cinema houses a host of multiplexes have also cropped up in West Bengal. These include Inox, Fame, 89 Cinema and others. Most of the older Bengali cinema houses display the Victorian architecture. Today most of the halls flaunt Dolby Digital sound system with impressive sitting arrangements. The screens have grown to 35 millimetres. Earlier the Bengali cinema houses did not have such big screens.
