Thekinkattil Ramunni Nair was a prominent Kathakali actor and teacher. He was born in Tachhanattukara village, near Valluvanadu, Palakkad district in 1888. His elder brother brought him up in Edathara, where he took lessons in Kathakali from the guru Pattikkantodi Ramunni Menon. He continued it for sixteen years in places like Chetthalloor, Vellinezhi, and Karalmanna. He acted for different troupes of Nedumpulli Mana, Modappilappally Mana, and Kumbalath Embranthiri. In 1947 he started teaching at Koodallur Mana. Later, he taught at Thootha near Cherppulasseri and Ankarath in Palakkad. Ramunni Nair excelled in paccha, katti, vellattati, and female characters, and was an expert in making Kathakali costumes. He wrote an important book, Natya rachana or `Preparing for Theatre` in 1956. This book describes the rasas, their nature, and the techniques of expressing them by facial flexibility. His disciples include many famous prsons like Kalamandalam Gopi and V. P. Ramakrishnan Nair. Thekinkattil Ramunni Nair died in the year 1962.
